I'm suggesting that people who claim that automatic promotion and relegation is a fundamental principle of rugby league should be consistent.

No. Because I happen to think the current system is right. Clubs should only move up to the semi-pro ranks when they're ready - and any application should be judged on a range of on and off-field criteria. And similarly, clubs should only move from the semi-pro to professional ranks when they're ready, and any application should be judged on a range of on and off-field criteria.
I'm not the only demanding that automatic promotion and relegation based solely on on-field performance in one season is some sort of sacred principle. And I'm not the one hypocritically ignoring the fact that demanding it between semi-pro and professional ranks, but not between amateur and semi-pro ranks rather defeats the argument that it is a sacred principle which is at the core of the sport and always has been, when that is clearly not the case.

I know that Wheldon Road met the criteria in force for promotion at the end of the 2005 and 2007 seasons. And we carried out changes to the ground to meet those criteria. Whether they did or didn't meet some previous criteria that weren't in force at the times of our promotions is irrelevant.
