I'm suggesting that people who claim that automatic promotion and relegation is a fundamental principle of rugby league should be consistent.

No. Because I happen to think the current system is right. Clubs should only move up to the semi-pro ranks when they're ready - and any application should be judged on a range of on and off-field criteria. And similarly, clubs should only move from the semi-pro to professional ranks when they're ready, and any application should be judged on a range of on and off-field criteria.

I'm not the only demanding that automatic promotion and relegation based solely on on-field performance in one season is some sort of sacred principle. And I'm not the one hypocritically ignoring the fact that demanding it between semi-pro and professional ranks, but not between amateur and semi-pro ranks rather defeats the argument that it is a sacred principle which is at the core of the sport and always has been, when that is clearly not the case.

Starbug wrote:But you do know that Wheldon road did not comply with the stated criteria for admission to SL
I know that Wheldon Road met the criteria in force for promotion at the end of the 2005 and 2007 seasons. And we carried out changes to the ground to meet those criteria. Whether they did or didn't meet some previous criteria that weren't in force at the times of our promotions is irrelevant.

So find me a post by anybody suggesting there should not be P and R between amatuer and Championship ?

SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!

You also know that that criteria was changed to suit Castleford Tigers and the stadium wheldon road

I'm also sure the vast majority of Castleford Tigers fans I met in 2007 would admit it as well , they unlike your good self dont thrive on B******t , you have lived in London far too long

[quote="tb"]Irrelevant. Whether, eg Bramley Buffaloes, want to be promoted to Championship 1 after winning their fourth minor premiership in a row (and when they won their first grand final iirc the division they play in was called NL3) the point is that the semi-pro clubs don't offer them the opportunity - instead if they want to move up into the semi-pro ranks they have to apply for entry into the league and have their application judged on a whole range of criteria which aren't simply the performance of their first team on the pitch in any given season. Exactly the same as any semi-pro club wanting to apply to join the full-time professional league.

Not true as the semi pro clubs dont have that power

Does that make you better than anyone as a person or your opinion on the principles of sport or how to run a sport better?

No.

So what it has to do with this thread I don't know.

Do you run Jackson's coaches? If so I apologise as I was once sick on one of your coaches on the way back from Wigan baths.

I suggest there should not be P and R between amatuer and Championship and here's for why.............

I want my own club to be protected if we ever fall into a sticky patch. We almost relegated from NL1 in 2004 - God knows what would have happened had we gone down a league. Amateur clubs mixing with semi-professional clubs? The very thought makes me wince. This is a private club, we don't want no oiks from the amateur leagues up here with us.
