I don't understand where the amount of money you win comes from. If someone is 13 to lay, to make a profit of £10, you have to bet £130?
If a horse /person is 13/1 to win an event / race.
You have to be willing to risk £130 in the case that it wins..... if it loses however you recieve the backers stake of £10 so therefore by laying you have become the bookmaker.
In the previous example on man utd been 1.45 the backer (not you) are backing a 1/2 on shot (roughly) and therefore they would only make £4.50 profit from a £10 stake and therefore thats what you would lose if man utd won the game.
However if they drew or lost you'd recieve the backers £10 stake.
