To get to 'The Next Level', Rovers maybe have to take a gamble. Mason does look like one hell of a gamble though. At the other end of the spectrum, I see there is a Radford (who I like) rumour, but that is maybe at the other extreme and risk aversion can be dangerous too. I guess it is all up in the air still and I don't particularly believe either of them. We've only got about 3 or 4 non-club trained ooc, haven't we? Don't think there'll be that many changes, perhaps one big name...

That should be enough for one "super star" or two "stars" and two/three from the academy into the first team squad.
Inglis, thurston, slater and the like are on between $500,000 and $700,000(£288,000 and £402,000) I'm not sure if that's before 3rd party payments. It's supposed to go up next season for the elite.

Our pack has got virtually every type of forward you'd need except someone who can suck defenders in like Crabtree for instance.
I'm thinking 2nd or 3rd tackles inside the opposition red-zone who will suck defenders in so there are gaps left out wide which the likes of Dobson and our new 6 could exploit.
There are obviously a few question marks over the possible signing of Mason but you'd imagine that next season there'll be plenty of space under the cap when you consider Walker, Cooke, Fisher, Mills, Wheeldon and I'Anson could all be heading out of the club - that's probably well over £350K in wages and we could sign 3 world class players with that sort of money which I'm sure that would put us back in the top-four.
The one thing that Mason is, is that he's a big name who would arguably be the highest-profile name in the Super League that could help to get a few more people through the gate. So in the that respect signing Mason could generate a great return on investment for shelling out 100k or whatever - regardless of what he does on the pitch...

Not really the salary cap in aus is $4.1million (about £2.4 million) which will rise next year then have a massive increase in 2013.
There's also 3rd party payments and a $100,000 elite player award, which doubles soon.
Melbourne had 4 top players and are $1.3m over the cap.
Most clubs have 2.
