I watched the last European Championship final with another English mate in a Murcian pub packed with Spanish supporters. There was a German lad and a German girl yet not a bit of trouble. Actually a group of about three or four Spaniards did laugh in the general direction of the German couple when Torres scored :NAUGHTY:

Murcia, Spain is not London, England.

You live in Spain. You know the way oppo supporters will be treated. It's okay for opposition supporters to watch a match against Spain without threats of violence. That's clearly not the case for a German in England FFS.

That's what I was trying to show. You're usually fine here, unless you're black.

Coaches should have NO say in it.

Why not? It works very well in the NFL and would stop people wanting every little decision that led to a goal looked at. If don't think that would happen you're being a little naive.

Quote:I can't see the complexity that some folk envisage.
What I am advocating is that things carry on exactly as at present apart from that refs get help from a 5th official (video ref) on key issues.
These issues will be ONLY when goals are scored and penalties are awarded....probably only on average two, three or four times in an entire game. That's the entirety of it.

Do you look at offside? Fouls? Dives? Obstruction?

Quote:Every other situation is governed by the ref and is NOT open to being challenged....by anyone...just as now.

Why? Everyone knows referees make mistakes, why not just admit it?

Quote:That's what I would like.
That's do-able in my book.

That's nice, I'd like what I suggested and that's just as do able.

Quote:And as for 'what about all other contentious issues' and the assertion of 'creepage'? ......all other issues would be excluded...that's the ref's job.

Until the FA bow before media pressure...

I'm not Jesus Christ, I've come to accept that now.

Now that is rubbing salt in the wounds, that even the English officials are doing their job better than the so-called players. As for Brazil v Holland, who's brave enough to predict the outcome of this one? Could well be match of the tournament. Certainly a damn sight more watchable for the inevitable cheat exhibition, gamesmanship display, foul demonstration, spoil show and ultimately brawlfest that is Argentina v Germany.

We'd arranged to take the kids to Wales before England drew Germany and so I missed the debacle. That said, when I did get back and watch the game I didn't think England's performance warranted the flood of bonkers berks calling into Five Live and its prize pillock - Allan Green.

For sure, Germany were the better side and deserved their win. But - despite their technical and tactical deficiencies - England could easily have won that game. Had the Lampard goal stood the Germans would have been put under enormous pressure. For all their ability, they remain a young team and inexperience combined with pressure often breeds panic.

Where England go from here is a tough question. For all their achievements at club level the time to call time on the careers of James, Terry, Lampard, Gerrard & Barry (possibly) and Heskey has arrived. James has always been a walking time-bomb. Terry has never impressed me in an England shirt and has as much pace as a drunken penguin. Lampard has never been the player he is at Chelsea and his form in an England shirt is diminishing. Despite a bad season Gerrard retains enough craft to see us through to the Euros - but only if he is used optimally. Barry's lack of pace (is he still injured?) will be targeted by future opponents. Heskey ... what can be said?

Where such a cull would leave England is anyone's guess. Yes, there are some good kids knocking around in the Premiership (Agbonlahor, Gibbs, Rodwell, Walcott etc.), but certainly no Messis, Ronaldos, Kakas, Ozils etc. The nearest genuine talent is Aaron Ramsey - who falls victim/takes advantage of a ridiculous means of national subdivision.

Only the British can be so stupid to allow itself to break into separate nations whilst remaining one nation.

Here's a question to ponder:

How many World Cups would a BRITISH - rather than English - team have won?

England didn't miss by much in 1970. And there were a LOT of good Scottish players during that time. They - alone - may well have swung a second.

If we'd had some decent penalty takers in 1990 we'd probably have won that year too. Argentina were very poor in that final

That's rubbish.
Every little thing?? Just the obvious things that any ref normally should look at....nothing new.

Billinge_Lump wrote:Do you look at offside? Fouls? Dives? Obstruction?

Yes...but only when a goal is scored. Why is that so hard to understand??

Billinge_Lump wrote:Why? Everyone knows referees make mistakes, why not just admit it?
Oh the fooking irony....of course they make mistakes and the entire point of this is to reduce that and help them get it right.

Billinge_Lump wrote:That's nice, I'd like what I suggested and that's just as do able.

Of course but flawed.

Billinge_Lump wrote:Until the FA bow before media pressure...

Now that's were you are assuming for the sake of your argument that the pressure is wrongly founded...just because it runs counter to your point of view. What's wrong with pressure if the essence is correct...but eh you know best carry on being dismissive.....but come the day, you and your ilk will be reminded big time of your folly. I don't think it will be too long, but carry on with your head in the sand if it suits.
Let's have more injustice...because we have to take the rough with the smooth....don't we???
But as long as people hang on to the every little thing nonsense.....it will be hard....the very same 'every little things' that are somehow not a problem now and can be ignored, but would be some sort of an embarrassment when looked at on a picture.
These 'every little things' are actually a handful of things.
AND we aren't inventing anymore that don't exist already....so nothing is changing...it's just a bloody diversion.

War does not determine who is right - only who is left.

Thank God I'm an atheist.
