No, he's not that bad, Altidore can at least avoid falling over a tall blade of grass.

It looks likely that some of these stadia will stand empty after the tournament. The travel infrastructure isn't good enough. The locals can't afford the tickets and as such a lot of the matches have had thousands of empty seats.

The travel infrastructure in South Africa isnt that bad. Its a bloody big country and I'd expect there would be problems moving fans from city to city in say Russia, Australia or any other big country apart from the US.

I agree that there has been a wasted investment in stadia, but that's largely down to the unrealistic demands placed on SA by FIFA. The original intention in Cape Town was to upgrade the existing 23,000 football stadium in the largest township to 45,000 seats, whilst also taking the opportunity to upgrade the township road infrastructure. However Blatter insisted on a flagship stadium close to the Waterfront and with a better view of Table Mountain. The cheapest option would have been to simply use the existing 50,000 seater international standard rugby union stadium at Newlands.

Overall I think the tournament has so far justified the decision to take the World Cup to Africa.

Come up to date FFS...Where there's a will there's a way. Mankind is all about improvement and technology can help in sport as elsewhere..
The VR evidence would have strict limitations on what was being looked for....mainly cheating in the action of goalscoring and penalties...the rest would be up to the ref ALONE at the time, but reviewable after the event for unfair punishments or blatent acts of cheating or thuggery.
What is hard about that?
And besides which.... the right way is to try it and review it...that's the scientific way.

The only way it could be introduced is to follow the NFL idea and have the coaches call when they want it to be used. Give them a couple of chances each half, if they are proved correct they still keep their quota, if they've used it frivolously they lose one. That way contentious decisions could be challenged, but the coaches could pick on every decision that went against them.

I'm not Jesus Christ, I've come to accept that now.

Where do you get the 'the only way it can be introduced' bit from?
Coaches should have NO say in it.

I can't see the complexity that some folk envisage.
What I am advocating is that things carry on exactly as at present apart from that refs get help from a 5th official (video ref) on key issues.
These issues will be ONLY when goals are scored and penalties are awarded....probably only on average two, three or four times in an entire game. That's the entirety of it.

Every other situation is governed by the ref and is NOT open to being challenged....by anyone...just as now.

That's what I would like.
That's do-able in my book.

And as for 'what about all other contentious issues' and the assertion of 'creepage'? ......all other issues would be excluded...that's the ref's job.

War does not determine who is right - only who is left.

Thank God I'm an atheist.

So the ref can wrongly send a player off, he can wrongly book someone when they should be off, he can wrongly rule that a striker fouled a defender when creating a scoring chance, but when he thinks that the goal he's just seen is fine, he's got to accept the judgement of the VR?
