While I'm not a supporter of Blatter, it's not really his fault that gamesmanship is so rife in the game. FIFA have given referees the instructions and powers to punish the gamesmanship. FIFA have made it clear that players who try and get other players booked/sent off should be booked themselves. FIFA have given refs clear instructions that diving to gain an advantage should be booked. FIFA have vigorously promoted their Respect campaigns to clamp down on the terrible way refs are treated.

What do you think Blatter should do to rid the game of gamesmanship?

retrospective punishments would seem the only answer.

It's been fun.

But if you can't use video replays to tell if a goal has been scored how the hell can you use a video replay to punish someone retrospectively?

Move on, nothing to read here.

There should be both....retrospective punishment doesn't have a bearing on the game....like a sending off would...but it's better than nothing..
AND.....it's a long time since the 'hand of god' incident and NOTHING has changed.....a cheating little so and so like Maradona could still rob some side of a rightful victory. And it's OK....FFS! There have been at least two hand-ball assisted goals in this competition....it is about time we clamped down during the game and retrospectively too with video evidence.
France should not have been allowed to progress into the world cup finals without a replay....nearly everyone could see his (Henry's) handball and nothing was done. That's wrong!
It's a cheat's charter to leave it all to the ref and his merry men.

I think you could move that forward 15 yards and 20 yards towards the middle of the pitch and Heskey would still miss it

The score when Maradona scored the handball goal was 0-0. Maradona did cheat to knock that in with his hand, but England got exactly what they deserved with their dreadful defending and goalkeeping.

Maradona then danced round half the England team to make it 2-0.

England, having their backs against a wall, manage to score one goal but that's all.

I'm really not seeing how England were robbed of a rightful victory. If Maradona's handball had been given he could have still scored the wonder goal and Argentina could have protected a one goal lead in a manner they wouldn't when leading 2-0.

At the most England were robbed of a draw. IMO Argentina would've won anyway though.

As if to order regarding video evidence....a Chilean player gets sent off resulting from lousy on the spot refereeing. A quick look at a video would have shown that it wasn't deliberate.
But NO!! let's stay in the dark ages.
