Good move by Rovers, hard to get good Engliah backs so a good way to use the quota place.

Interesting to see if you still go for Hall, as it would be a pointless move now IMO, like Hull would only be a back up?

Oh yeah admittedly there's probably not a lot to choose from as far as young players ready to make the step up, just meant if there was (not really up on the academy scene to be honest).

Webster undoubtedly is a very dangerous player on his day, but lately I just wonder every time he takes a tackle whether he's going to be limping when he gets up. Not having a go at him, guess some players are just very unlucky through their careers compared to others.

Wonder what this means for Ratu by the way?

We're allowed up 5 quota/non-fed and 12 fed- (but not club-) trained in 2011, same as most other clubs. Some overseas players have got dispensation and qualify as non-quota and fed-trained. We could go around hoovering up as many as possible and maybe get to 13 - but so could Hull or anybody else.

More by luck than judgement (the rules have changed too many times to claim we were clever), for the 2008 season we signed some decent players from the NRL, who still had a few good years ahead of them, so we maybe have a bit more choice for recruitment and retention. From our POV, bonus. We'll still be limited to 17 non-club-trained players though and given the infancy of our youth set-up, they mostly need to be quality senior players.

I'm happy Webster has re-signed. He'd have been difficult to replace with a similar standard of player and it shows continuing ambition from the board.

Would have been a perfect fit IMO.

Now probably the best british ooc stand-off in SL.
Morgan has stated he likes a SO who can take on the line - Webster himself got a couple of games there, of course.

At centre, Welham is very valuable because of his club-trained status and is also quite good IMO. Maybe not the raw talent of Hall, but a more rounded player. Hall would have been a good value replacement for Webster, if the club were/are focussing on belt tightening. Even now, we've only got Cockayne and Ratu as reserves for the backs, with SL experience, so it'd be a good move for us. Not so sure it'd be so good for him - unless we do gamble on him for stand-off. That'd be a big risk though.

Have I read you right that Hull have been playing Hall at stand-off?! :EH:

They did once, I believe. And a few times at reserves level, too.

Certainly not regularly. It is just me trying to make sense of the rumour that he is signing for us - and just speculating/making stuff up.

Cracking news :D

Was probably our best player in the first half of the season.

Hopefully that will put the Hall rumours to bed.

At School he was my stand off as i played 7 and for Embassay he was always 6. Not Super League level i know but always scored about 3 a game taking the line on. Big risk but why not, cheaper than finch and could be a bigger success story.
