To be fair this story breaking has meant lots of pictures of attractive Dutch girls in short dresses being published, and led to the sacking of Robbie Earle and the end of his punditry, so it isn't all bad.

Apparently he is being praised and mobbed everywhere he goes in South Africa, deary me. If the World Cup comes over here in 2018 I don't think he will be treated the same somehow.

Asim wrote:Generally I think not losing has come more and more into the mindset of footballers and coaches as the game becomes more and more dominated by money and that is being reflected in some very cautious play, it shouldn't be that much of an issue at the World Cup but it's hard to adjust your mindset from one competition to another.

I think it's because of the general lack of top managers on the international stage. I've mentioned two or three managers of decent sides who do their best Domenech impressions, whilst people like Sven still get a go at international level, despite little to prove he's great at that level, 'cause he wasn't great with England or Mexico.

Additionally, with players being so tired after the season then having to join up with their international sides, it's generally easier for managers to make the team 'tough' and hard to break down due to the lack of chemistry and peak fitness for players.

After the first round, my opinions still haven't really changed, Brazil or Spain to win it with Argentina/Germany being against them in the final (am I right in saying Brazil can't play Spain in the final?). I think Argentina could be a real momentum side, where they suddenly tick for a month to blow almost everyone out, but any quick attacking side should give them too many problems. The others (Brazil, Germany, Spain) already have a natural gel to them IMO, it seems like the players know each other really well, whereas Argentina are still trying to figure it out, IMO.

Whilst we're talking about Argentina, has Riquelme signed for West Ham? If so, surely he must be well past it if he's going there?

Asim wrote:Oh, and after seeing everyone at least once I'd say the best teams so far have been Germany, Argentina, South Korea and Chile, they all played some good attacking stuff and were very watchable.

I think the Koreans could cause Argentina some problems tomorrow with their pace and movement against a fragile defence.

argentina will go out in the quarters IMO they simply don't have the organisation required under maradona. With france struggling and spain probably likely to finish 2nd in their group wich would set up a 2nd round meeting with brazil, england stand a real chance of going far if they finish top of the group.

That would seem a silly thing to say.......in what way are they morons?
Blowing vuvuzelas?
Enjoying themselves?

For me anyone of about 8 teams could win it, it's wide open. It just needs a team to start gaining some momentum and their best players to get in form and they will have a great chance. Nobody should be fearing anyone else though.

Forlan was excellent last night and Uruguay in general looked a decent side. Looking forward to France/Mexico and Korea/Argentina today.
