Do we go for someone proven to settle the ship, or do we go for an unknown and hope they turn out like eastmond?

Any new signing is a risk. There don't look to be many experienced fed-trained options around. An antipodean, is a risk in another way as they can take time to settle in the UK. Also it'd mean losing Galea and Webster, two of our better players.

As I say, just an idea.

Personally, I'd rather see us go for a 'good' youngster who has the potential to be 'great'. Maybe Ratchford fits that bill, maybe he doesn't. I'm not sure sacrificing two of our best players, to fill an (albeit important) position is the best way forward. I'd much rather see us keep Webster and Galea and sign someone like Ratchford, than sacrifice one of them for someone like Finch.

Do you not think Galea wants to go then? thought he had been offered a 1yr extension but as yet hasnt signed it.

Kingmaker - do you really think Webster is in our "best players" bracket? If so i strongly disagree - when hes on form he can be great; but that is once in a blue moon and is more likely to limp off injured then do anything good.
so the panel took the same view as your excellent assessment.
hope so.the rumours flying around about him coming to us hasn't gone down well.i suppose you will have to lose 1 of your os players due to quotas anyway?which one??

Depends how many years you'll offer him i suppose, (Bit like the Longy situation was.) he wouldnt have to move house's and nothing much would change for Galea though..

But 110% id rather get rid of Webster even if Galea goes, then gives us room for quota, and money for a young British player.

I know what you mean. He made a big impact when he arrived in 2008, but has since struggled to live up those standards.
We'd miss him if he left though, I'm pretty sure. Look at the fed-trained alternatives on the ooc list, who'd be realistic targets - only Shenton (who everybody and his dog will be chasing) and maybe Clubb, would fully fill the gap. Craig Hall, while I'd be happy enough with him if it allowed us to strengthen elsewhere, is pretty much guaranteed to have lapses that would make us look back on Webster more fondly.

Agreed we will miss him if we take on the likes of Craig Hall to replace him, But for me; hes on too much for what hes produced since 08 and a free quota spot is the deciding factor for me.
