All educational establishments and a great many others working with children and the vunerable have all potential employees vetted by the authourities before being employed. This procedure should be 100% foolproof but some still try to " get away with it ".
After recently being involved in an interview selection panel at my own place of employment a guy who, to be fair, came across very well at the interview stage, admitted he had a problem " in the distant past ", but it was when he was young and he impressed enough to be given a job pending his CRB check.
It turned out he had " forgotten " a list of criminal activities including a recent spell of nine months at HMP for assault with regular offences, including violence, over both recent and bygone years.
Only a decade or so ago this guy, and many others like him, would have managed to secure employment and would have been free to prey upon others so no matter how much some may choose to criticise our politicians and law makers they do occasionally come up with decent legislation.
Standing up to the forum bully.

Maybe one for the sin-bin? Still, it's a quiet news day...

I see the problem here, the guy has been deceitful...however for the record people who may have committed assaults etc and hold a criminal record are not necessarily ruled out of working with childrenm each establishment who require crbs have a trained welfare officer who receives a copy of the crb report and then liaise with the relevant bodies, police, probation and social services to establish if the individual is considered a danger to children. Plenty of individuals with criminal records have rehabilitated and gone on to work successfully in their chosen professions

good post
just because he had a list of previous, does not mean he is a danger to children/vulnerable persons, most council jobs now require a CRB, so we just need to be sensible!
Duncan Balyantine has a criminal record for a violent crime, but it does not stop him working in his gyms
