Looks like James Haynes and Liam Welham aren't doing too bad in the Championship after being released by KR when they could have gone out on a dual registration. Could have developed and been brought back as required. I'm not too sure KR's policy of not having players out on duals is beneficial to the long term.
The harsh reality is that, dual-registration or not, Welham or Haynes just don't have the size, speed or skill to play regularly in a top half Super League team! They were unwanted by other clubs and are the remnants of the old National League club's youth policy!
The same applies to the vast majority of the current reserve side...though a few such as Mariano, Beaumont and Spaven have developed sufficiently to merit a token place in the first team squad to allow the club to satisfy the rules on homegrown players in the short-term.
Do they have a long-term future with the club? Probably not!
It's the next wave of players like Kristian Bell, Louis Sherriff, Jordan Cox, James Green, Joe Gay etc who will help take Hull KR to the next level.
All have been cherry-picked by the club and have been exposed to a much more professional coaching set-up from a younger age.
The club are much better off ploughing money into the development of these players and topping up the squad with promising young players from other clubs like Josh Hodgson than wasting more money on the club's current reserves!
