Hi can anyone who uses this messageboard please help.

A group of lads are coming up to Manchester on next weekend and planning on taking in our first rugby league game at Salford City Reds and then heading off out for a mates birthday. Can anyone recommend some pubs or bars worth going to near the willows or for when we venture into manchester ?

Can you drink whilst watching the game like you can when watching 'union' (sorry if that word is not allowed on here !) ?

Any help welcome.

Thanks in advance

For convenience The Willows Tavern on the ground is an option for a pre match pint.

After the game jump on a tram. If your after a lively part of town on a Friday night get off at G-Mex for Deansgate Locks or Shudehill for the Printworks. Gay Village is also an option and you dont have to be as camp as Graham Norton to go there. Prob 90% of the people in some of the bars are straight and theres usually a good atmosphere minus the w@nkers who turn town into fight night at the weekend.

Thanks for the help everyone. Really excited to be coming up with the lads this weekend. Is there any decent indie clubs in town ? We're talking 1990's and the classic 'Madchester' sound. Also we wanna get the birthday boy up doing some Karoke if there is anywhere you'd recommend.

Are there areas of town to head for or is everything within easy reach from the city centre ?

Who do we need to look out for at the game and what time should we arrive ? Is there usually good banter before the game or do people generally arrive just before kick off ?

Many thanks again.

Look out for an aussie bloke with a portly appearance talking bollox,
Indy clubs in town, The Ritz brill on a Saturday night
get to the ground about 4.00 and go in the club itself, some really good pre-match entertainment, live bands in the Madchester mode and videos of Salford's winning matches and some local characters.

People just tend to get there just before kick off, however there is a reserve team game first which will probably be better than the first team game the way we are playing at the moment.
