When we have a scrum feed and are defending our own 20,its crying out for either Ratchford or Holdsworth to boot the ball as hard as possible on the first tackle for Jody to chase. The opposing fullbacks are always up in the line, leaving about 80 metres of field with no defenders.Lee Briers has done this move often with great results [ Lee Penny etc ]What have you to lose? Even if we didnt collect the ball, we will have gained many yards upfield, which our forwards seem unable to do .

we have done this in the past, but under the current coach this would not be allowed because it affects the completion rate of the sets of six, remember Rubgy is all about Percentages

I'm a big fan of off the cuff rugby, chips over the top, hail mary type long distance up and unders, a big push at the scrum, cross field kicks generally the type of rugby we witnessed the other week with the vidoe feed of the CC win over Wigan all those years ago. Play that type of hot potato rugby and you may not win every game but you would win a fair few and the fans would be happy with the effort and commitment without a shadow of a doubt.
Unfortunately as I was told by a member of the playing staff the other week that kind of thinking and play is discouraged vigerously by SM.

If SM does indeed discourage " off the cuff " rugby then I for one will be glad when he goes.As said before , its not that we get beat that hurts , but the way in which we get beat.I would much rather watch a team playing open rugby and losing , than what we are dishing up at the moment.

It does beggar belief that for the first time in years we have some real pace in the threequarters and yet we continue to drive up the middle, even with our best forward Cashmere injured, no change in tactics - same old same old.....
