I think I can sum up what has happened, and the feelings in this situation.

Lets face it, no matter what, this whole saga generates massive feelings on both sides of the river and rightly so due to the fact that Hull, as a city, loves and is passionate about rugby. The rivalry of Hull and Rovers has to be one of the most passionate of any sport in the world. Maybe some would see this as an overstatement, but I don't think so.

Cooke was 16, into the Hull team. Progressed and became an idol for many, desipte his off field antics. He completely sh@t on FC and their fans, rightfully to the glee of rovers fans (I would have loved it if the boot on the other foot) and rightfully to the hatred of fc fans. The judus chorus was great. Then you destroyed us on our own pitch. As an FC fan, I despise what this man did to us. I agree with the smug superioirty that this situation gave the rovers fans, and you were right to gloat.

But, he has ended up sha@tting on rovers fans now as well. He comes in as the highly paid SL star. Maybe he kept you up, but did he really? I would rather say Morgan is the difference for you lot. He has cost you a fortune for doing very little (FWIW I get castigated for saying Berro has not been worth the money for us, although I am hoping this is his year and can prove me wrong)

Cooke is the rightful enemy of Fc fans, we paid him. We now have our moment of slight amusement. Lets face it, is has become less important for FC fans now as time has passed, but still worthy of a dig, as I maintain, a relative fortune he has cost you.

So wakey now have the man, who I believe has thrown his career away through a lack of loyalty and morals. I don't think he will be on half the salary he got from you next year.

A whole sorry mess.

But, remember, the passion of the whole thing on both sides is due to the fact that we as fans, are passionate about this game. This incident, let's face it was an unprecedented one, and worthy of the outrage/gloating from both sides.
How I wish sometimes we had only ever what one side in Hull, what fun and fanatacism we would have had.

But maybe not as much fun, eh!

I wonder if that one side would be superior to whichever Hull or Rovers side is on top at any given time? I suspect not, as I think the rivalry spurs both teams on. The only point on which I really disagree with your post is Cooke's contribution to our survival in 2007. I personally believe he was key, if only for the lift his signing gave to the morale of the team.

For Rovers, It has been like a messy but brilliant night out on the lash (appropriately enough), IMO. We'll always laugh about the stories, but in the morning your head hurts, your tongue is stuck to the roof of your mouth and you start to think that you are too old and that it is time for some clean living. You are glad you did it, but that doesn't necessarily mean you want to do it again.

As he disappears over the horizon (the deal will probably fall through and he'll stay now I've made the effort to be poetical), you start to realize the absurdity of the extent to which he dominated the RL scene in KuH for the last few years.
Anyway, I'll buy the book. I know you won't, but I bet you ask about it.

Spot on. Attention, airtime and column inches completely disproportionate to his ability - not even an international for goodness sake. An enigmatic and somehow compelling figure though and the soap opera of the derbies will be poorer without him. I'll be buying the book for sure. Reckon both clubs will get a right pasting. Reckon there are still some chapters to be written before he hangs up his boots as well

Nah - the library, that way I can get to read his 'version' of events without him benefitting from another purchase of his book. He didn't want my money when he left the club so I'll be ar$ed if he gets any more money from me.

I reckon there'll never be a book.

And smallears, I agree with most of your post, but I think the intensity of the love of the sport in this city is often because it has two clubs not in spite of it.

The passion would be nowhere near as high with a single club.

I reckon reddan is correct.

Unless the book is a vanity publication (self published), then I can't ever see a financial return big enough for any publisher to even consider financing such a project. At the moment the target audience would only be RL supporters in Hull and a few anoraks who collect any RL-related ephemera.
