Eh?! He's cost us something like £125k-£150k a year, on a 3-year contract. With bonuses etc you might be talking £600k all-in (at the absolute max). Considering he was a critical part in the club surviving in SL in '07 and securing a franchise (which with both brings thousands if not millions in TV revenue, sponsorship, extra sales of tickets/merchandise etc), I'd consider that a good investment personally.
P.S. It also screwed up your eagerly-anticipated 2007 season, which of course was a nice bonus.

As you say Roofs, Paul Cooke was probably the difference between us staying in Super League after our promotion......and everything that has happened since may well have so different. Agreed from franchise and everything else that comes with it, he is worth every penny.

Where's the money gone then if you're nearly £4,000,000 in debt? Stop talking pollocks.
It's interesting that your new mega signing arrives and Cooke leaves. Is this because the club realised what they had signed and how much they were paying for him meant they could not keep under the salary cap if they wanted Clinton (which is what really held up the deal)?
On a serious note, how do you lot feel in the fact that you are paying towards the wages of a player who no longer plays for you? Doesn't that demonstrate how desperate you were to get rid of him??

Have you got proof he isnt a rovers player anyway? Because ive only seen it in the local rag - the same rag that said Joel would be here before Xmas... Rovers havent even announced hes going to Wakey, so how can you be so sure were paying towards his wages?

Obviously not happy, but he is clearly an asset that has depreciated somewhat, so it is understandable that Wakefield wouldn't want to pay what we were willing to pay in 2007. As it looks like he wasn't going to play, you can look at the loan as pennies saved or wasted. Just how 'bad' it is depends on what proportion we are paying - I think they should cough up roughly T.Newton's wage, which is convenient. Depends how much they want him and how much we want shot. Morgan claims Rovers didn't initiate, which, at face value, could mean they weren't actively looking to offload him, but if it was Cooke that instigated things they certainly would be now, you'd imagine.

I take on board what you're saying mate, cut your losses etc, it would make sense financially.
However if you think back to before the season started, Cooke was given the go-ahead to speak to other clubs then, which is why I assumed the club had a mix up in the wages being paid for this season and once they realised they would be over the cap, they needed to offload someone who was on a big wage.
So although you say the club didn't instigate the move to Wakefield, maybe they did indirectly?
