Another step along the way -
http://www.publictenders.net/tender/48952

Probablt the most relevant bit of text is -

"II.1.5)Short description of the contract or purchase(s):
The site which is approximately 18 hectares in size is situated in Barton and is bounded to the North by the A57, to the East by the elevated M60 Barton Bridge and Eccles Water Treatment Works, and to the South by the Manchester Ship Canal. In the wider area, Barton Aerodrome lies to the North West of the site at the opposite side of the A57.

Currently a separate contract is in place for Remediation works which include, site remediation including grading (cut and fill), ground stabilisation, screening and disposal of unsuitable material, importing filling / environmental / site logistical management.

A join venture (JV) has been agreed between Peel Holdings Ltd and Salford City Council for the development of a stadium within Phase 2 of the site development. The proposed works will include, but may not be limited to, the following:

— Construction of a 12 000 to 15 000 (approx) capacity stadium within 4 stands. This capacity will also have to be designed for a future expansion to 20 000 capacity,

— Within the main stand the provision of areas for concession, community concession, players area, club match day facilities, banqueting space, executive boxes, club offices, kitchen and pantry, media and control rooms, open plant deck and circulation throughout,

— Pitch for the stadium and two training pitches with one being an artificial pitch,

— Community changing facility,

— Parking spaces for 500 (approx) cars and 20 (approx) coach spaces,

— Highways work for site circulation and relevant s278 works for link onto the A57,

— Landscaping works."

"I didn't see Risman, Todd or Watkins in red vests.
I saw a bit of Steve Gibson and Blakely at his best.
Now I'm watching Alker lead us on against the rest,
As the Reds go marching on ...... "

Whilst it's obviously good news that the stadium is clearly on its way I am little concerned that we (ie. Salford RLFC) will only be tenants, much like Leigh are at the LSV.

The reason I am concerned is that life at the LSV has been far from rosy for the Leythers, and I worry that we could end up being the same.

 Love him or hate him, 163 consecutive appearances should make Stuart Littler a Salford legend in anyone's book

I just hope a stadium gets built. I am not greedy and a 12,000 capacity stadium would be perfect for us initially. It is not too big and our attendances would have to grow significantly for it to limit us. If we get to that stage then we can just extend it as required.

It just means that now that the club can't rely on extra cash to come from the hotel/casino/commercial retail stuff that was originally planned. They will have to work even harder than they do now to ensure that the club does what's necessary to ensure we get more money to spend by people coming through the turnstiles.

I think a lot is going to depend on what happens with the next franchise applications. If we are successful then I hope that the board would dig deep and ensure that we have a team that is able to mix it with the rest of SL. It'll be important IMO that we have a winning team to get people interested and coming through the turnstiles. Should we not get a franchise or the board fail to get a better quality of player. Then I think fatboy limb that your worse fears may just come true.

Apparently, there's standing behind both ends, too. Which is great news.

First accept sadness. Realise that without losing 70% of the time, winning wouldn't be such a relief.
