R.B.A wrote:My personal view is that the individual qualities of Briscoe, Fox and Colbon, combined with the way they blend together make them the best "back three" in Super League.
It was also good to hear Justin talk about how much time the 3 spend together outside of training working on improving their combinations.

Hmm, not sure I'd go so far as saying the best, most solid, maybe.

We lack in attack. Fox, obviously can score, Colbon I like a lot but isn't a real out and out finishing winger and Briscoe needs a yard of pace to make him truly dangerous going forwards.

On our own line then yes, Briscoe is exceptional at reading the plays and marshalling the defence, Colbon mans up very well and has good one on one defence and Fox isn't the weak link he's made out to be.

As to the best, if Webb could find a way to lose his frequent spells of insanity whenever anyone puts a kick into the in goal then Leeds for me have the best back three with him, Donald and Hall.

If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

Just an interesting concept that you have a "team" of 3 with 2 people in charge. If you extend that to the team, you would have 11 players in charge of the team. Poor Fox, he must feel like Howard being bossed around by Robbie and Gary.

As RBA says though, there can be little doubt that Briscoe-Colbon-Fox is the supreme back 3 in the comp.

I think you're right Mrs B. I believe Peter Fox deals with the angst this causes by seeking solace in tries.

On the Oval Ball on Sunday, Justin Morgan was bigging up Liam Colbon ahead of the Wigan game and saying Colbon was "very very much in charge of the back 3", and then qualified it immediately with "along with Sean Briscoe". Poor Peter Fox. What happens when the other 2 are dishing out orders to him and don't agree? Who really wears the trousers in this 3 way power struggle? I think we should be told.

I heard that interview Mrs B. The bit that confused me was Justin saying it was easier to organise defensively from the left side. Not quite worked that out, but I’m sure there’s some logic to it.

I said last season I thought these 3 were out biggest asset.

Of the 10 SL rounds last season where at least one of them was absent we lost 5. Of the 17 rounds where all 3 played we only lost 4.

Solid in defence, plenty of tries & loads of metres on kick return & exit sets. Can’t ask for much more than that.

Rovers second try on Sunday.
Colbon recieved the ball from the scrum as he had moved into the Off Half position.
Drove the ball in hard and straight at pace.
Quickly found his front.
Smart play the ball.
Moved left swiftly by Cooke and Dobson
Try Fox.

Oh so simple. :D

I assume it similar to how you lot keep telling us what a great leader Long is on the pitch, that fitzgibbon is a great captain like figure, that O'meley wont stand for any dissent and will lead the pack and Radford can show his leadership, you must be worried about your pack with so many trouser wearers...
