I think the rendition of red red robin did more to incite the home supporters. This is yet another of these silly squabbles both clubs seem to engage in when either side is concerned.
I have seen the rovers mascot on tv plenty of times shaking his tailfeathers at the crowds and i think the majority of people take it as it is meant to be. Just a bit of light hearted fun.
As for the supporters who complained i think they have way too much time on thier hands.
