After today’s game I m quite happy with the performance from our new lads, Tyrer and Holdsworth impressed me particularly, Tyrer with his strong runs and Holdsworth with his fast hands and clever football brain. I know this was only Swinton and we'll see the real side of them when Super League starts but overall I m quite happy with the run out, From what I saw it should of probably been a 70-0 scoreline tonight with a few balls put down and a few soft tries conceded but I’m happy with what I’ve seen so far.

Though the forwards went well, Boyle, Swain and Cashmere the standouts out for me. Holdsworth had a good run out. Hard to really judge today as we should be dominating against Swinton. Its nice to have a few options in the backline this season and i hope Talau can stay fit. Looks like weve got a bit of pace out there aswell.

Think next week will give us a better indication of where we are with our preperation for the new season. I'll be happy if we can do a similar thing to Widnes.

Anyone know why Adamson & Henry werent playing?

most impressive for me? Matty Smith - nice to have someone on the park looking like a proper scrum half, bit of a novelty for us :)
I also thought Ryan Boyle looked keen and was getting stuck in with great enthusiasm

As mentioned above, I think it's difficult to gauge the performance considering we were playing a team two leagues below us.

I liked what I saw from Boyle, put in some big hits and ran the ball in hard. With players like Holdsworth and Matty Smith on the pitch our ball distribution and quickness of passing should improve. Our kicking game should be a lot better this year too.

Jeremy Smith, like last season, looks better when he's playing at hooker and scooting from dummy half. I wonder if we'll see him play a bit more at number 9 this year.

We could have had more points on the board but there were a couple of tries we couldn't quite finish off, mainly probably due to lack of game time.

I think we have recruited well considering the budget. Well done to all concerned. Agree with the positive comments above. `Reg` Houldsworth looks to have plenty of ability - bit of Dunemann about him as well - also Ashley Gibson worth a mention when showing a bit of class in attack - augers well and hopeful that this young side stick together.

Both apparently had slight niggling injuries, could have played, but why risk them in this game with the season looming .

I was fairly happy with what I saw from the boys in their first "hit-out." It's pretty difficult to gauge how well/poorly we played when you take into account the opposition (were we playing Eccles ?) and the amount of substitutions made. I've got to admit I do like the look of of Houldsworth (not in that way   ) he looks like he's got a bit of pace, a decent step and a good pair of hands. Tyrer had a decent game, a couple of good hand offs and was always looking to get involved. Learnt nothing new about the likes of Cashmere and Swain who I'm expecting big seasons from (especially as Cashmere is in my fantasy team). Gibson showed glimpses of his ability and his break for Smith's :?: try was quality. Broughton also looked like he had pace to burn although I'd have liked to have seen him take the full-back on the outside when he had that break in the 2nd half.

All in all a decent run out for the players and looks like we've managed to recruit well in the summer. It's nice to see we'll have some decent competition for places in the back line as well and with the versatility in the players recruited there should be plenty of options to change things round during games if needed. Let's hope we can push on with a decent result against Widnes and set ourselves up for a good start to the season.

Oh, one gripe from yesterday was the lack of draft Cider. Not only do they take Strongbow off tap and replace it with Blackthorn but then they don't even have that available. Poor show.

All in all yesterday wasn't too bad considering it was our first hit out, Widnes next week will be a much bigger test. As someone has already pointed out its nice to have a few options in the backline still not sure what our first choice backline should be, which is a good thing. Tyrer looked strong going forward, Broughton looked to have a bit of pace about him, Gibson went ok, Fitzy and McGilvary both looked fairly sharp. It was also nice to see McRae using J.Smith as a hooker he looked miles better there with his quick scoots and better distribution. I was surprised not to see anymore young lads on the bench Sneyd, Wood or Palfrey, but thought Spencer did ok again. Maybe McRae didn't want to mess around with the team too much due to lack of time until the big kick off so he just stuck to the lads he will be using during the season?

O yeah guess what Talau was limping at the end of the game with an ice pack on his leg. SHOCK!!!
