Sad preacher nailed upon the coloured door of time;
Insane teacher be there reminded of the rhyme.
There'll be no mutant enemy we shall certify;
Political ends, as sad remains, will die.

Quote:The first change effects the point at which a referee will call ‘held' in a tackle when the ball carrier's leg is lifted by the defending team. In previous seasons , the RFL say referees have only called held when both legs of the ball carrier were lifted off the ground: from this weekend the referee will call held if just one leg is lifted.

The League have also explained that the second change in interpretation is intended to outlaw the practise of dragging tackled players into touch or back towards their own in-goal area. Under the new interpretation, as soon as the referee sees a tackler dragging the ball carrier in a tackle that involves more than one defender he will call ‘held.'

Hmmm. So that means that two memorable past incidents can't happen again. Coley's carrying of Wain Pryce 20 yards back in goal at Cas, and when Gorden Tallis dragged then threw Brett Hodgson 15 yards into touch like a rag doll in Origin.

Yes i dont like the second interpretation, this means that teams cannot work hard together in order to try and get the ball back...

and as iain said some memorable moments are now impossible to be implemented in the way they once were

Not quite. It seems you can still group together and push, as long as nobody's dragging.

I can see players lifting one leg up if it looks like they may be pushed backwards. :wink:

Don't like either of them at all if im being honest. As a kid I've been coached to "lift a leaver (in other words a leg), dance (Try and spin the ball carrier so they're facing the wrong way)", then drop on to the player. But now as soon as the leg is lifted you have to let go, IMO this will stop a lot of dominate tackles from happening. Maybe this is what the RFL want though? To try and encourage a quick play the ball and get a more fast, attacking game.

Good john wilky last looked out
on the pitch at salford.
when the snow lay round about
deep and crisp and even
brightly played the lads that night
though the frost was cruelllll
when poor swinton scored a try
we had 94urrrrrrrrrr

I can't see many players being that bright.

poop rule change. I'll look forward to a lot of misinterpretation of the rule by the refs this season :? . As previously stated a lot of great moments will be lost and smart defensive work is likely to be penalised.

Seems you can still drag 1-on-1 though:

Wasn't Tallis v Hodgson 1-on-1?

I think so too. It looks like the RFL's attempt to cut down on the wrestling shenanigans in the tackle without resorting to the two referee system in the NRL.
