Don't suggest they've not backed him. His decisions re. signings are awful. Bar Reina and Torres who were hardly difficult to pick as being quality, none of his other signings have made the grade.
Surely you cannot defend the failure he has become? If all the signings he'd made were doing well, like you can say for David Moyes or Alex McLeish or O'Neill for example then people would agree with you. But I bet Rafa has spent well over £100m on utter rubbish.
From Wiki, I bet Rafa signed most, if not all, of these. I'm sure you can see a theme developing (Good signings, if he even made them, in bold):
Diego Cavalieri - Not good enough
Glen Johnson - Not good enough, paid £15m too much
Alberto Aquilani - Awful signing, paid £12m too much
Daniel Agger - Not good enough
Steven Gerrard (captain) - Rafa didn't sign
Fernando Torres - Top qualityAlbert Riera - Not good enough
Fábio Aurélio - Not good enough
Yossi Benayoun - Very good squad playerSotirios Kyrgiakos - Awful signing
Maxi Rodríguez - Signed today
Dirk Kuyt - Not good enough
Ryan Babel - Not good enough
Javier Mascherano - Good squad player
Lucas - Not good enough
Emiliano Insúa - Not good enough
Jamie Carragher - Rafa didn't sign him, but surely sees his time is up?
David N'Gog - Not good enough
Pepe Reina - Top qualityPhilipp Degen - Not good enough
Damien Plessis - Not good enough
Nabil El Zhar - Not good enough
Martin Škrtel - Not good enough
