IIRC Wigan renegotianted a a load of contracts part way through, shifting current payments into future years in order to be able to sign 10ish new players. Whereas Rovers are (apparently) structuring a new contract to fit the situation. Presume thats the difference.

i think the way Wigan did it was try to arrange some players to defer salary to the next year during the season to make cap room to sign Fielden etc, not pre contract which is the legal way to do it

Interseting that people on here refuse to believe the HDM, but believe some of Zod's and others rubbish.
If (big if) the HDM have got the story right, seems a lot to pay one player, one of his calibre anyway.
Also cant believe that Rovers would ahve signed him when they havent got enough room on the salary cap, what if they dont release a player, will anyone take Mills?

Not that many Ladyboys going from the UK to Thailand though, usually the other way round.
If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

Comment by Paul Baxter on HDM website Hi all, To answer the questions. We understand the deal to be over two years. Good and trusted sources have told us that KR are believed to be splitting the money to fit the cap - entirely withing the rules say the RFL. The delay with announcing him is to do with ensuring the club stays within the cap limit. The club won't comment on Clinton and have not done so for the past two months. With regards to KR's finances, there is no obsession from us - we just reported what the accounts say. It was the BBC who first reported the story of the accounts being filed late. We then followed it up with the chairman who openly talked about the club losing £450,000 a year. Then, as you would expect, we reported the accounts when they were supplied to Companies House . We asked the club to comment on them before publication, offering full opportunity to put them into full context of the club's present position. The club refused to comment at all, so we reported them factually - stating what the accounts said the club's position was, as of November 2008. The accounts are available on the Companies House website for anybody to view and interpret.

Any club can still break the salary cap, whether the cap is live or not. The reason for a live cap is so that any punishent can be ahnded down during the season in question, not the following year.
