i dont know about price but i doubt it would have gone up by much and after 25+ years of loyalty i wouldnt have thought they would of been put off by a few more quid?

It isn't value for money for him. Every year he will miss a few games due to work commitments illness or holidays. He doesn't want to go the Murrayfield so paying on the door works out cheaper. The club lose out on the money up front.

I applaud the club for the encouragement to families as that is the future, but single supporters (whether they are married/relationship or not if you get the drift) are hit. There should have been an offer of a single membership of £25 for those.

Sadly, after 45 years of following Salford home and away, I find myself in virtually the same situation as the friend Red Willow describes above. Due to ill health last season, I missed a fair few games so this season was always going to make me think rationally about what I would do. However, given the new scheme, it was never going to be a good value decision for me to continue. I understand fully that the club wants to try and expand the 'family market' and it makes sense but as Red Willow rightly states, not at the cost of the single supporters it may exclude. As for Holty's assertion that it shouldn't necessarily stop a loyal supporter - paying a few more quid? Well it's stopped me and clearly several others if the amount of times I have been telephoned at home to renew is anything to go by. I don't need a shirt and I won't go to Murrayfield and I have given up on the line that my support will be welcomed in the new iconic stadium by a place of my choosing.
I will still watch and listen, eagerly, to see how the lads are doing though. Hope it's a good season for you all and the club grows.

To be fair, after the balls up the club made of the original announcement and the conflicting information as to whether or not we'd all qualify for this membership scheme or not, £180 for a season ticket isn't exactly bad value for money. What do you want it to cost, £75?

What sort of offer from the club would have made you renew?

To be truthful, in the worst economic depression in living memory, something not too dissimilar to what I paid last year would have been a little more realistic (wasn't it £136 or something?). As I said, I missed a fair few games through ill health last year and that has had a very big say in my decision this year. The fact the price has gone up considerably (for me) is not a problem for some people. I know many younger lads follow the club and also follow United or even City  but with a lifetime paying for Education and Weddings some of us older supporters sometimes have to make decisions based on things more important than sport :o . It's each to his own I know and RL will always be THE sport and an affordable option but no longer for me. I don't like the incidious principle of the extra charge; many of my mates, who can still afford to watch United, tell me of the rise of such charges. Paying for games you may not even want to see???? Owning a shirt you don't really want? A free ticket to a game you didn't want to watch? Membership of a scheme that is not required???? Where does that all end? None of my opinions are aimed at the club I have always supported - they are more my thoughts on what I don't really like to see happening. As has been said elsewhere, Loyalty is not a one way street. What may be a miniscule thing at The Willows can be seen in all its avaricious glory up the road at Old Trafford. Count me out.

Myself and my family and friends have renewed our season tickets, that's Two Senior Concessions, Four Adults and Six Juniors as we feel that is is excellent value for money.

If any club knows about loyalty then ours does, how long has the chairman been pumping money into the club?

I make a habit of purchasing my season ticket as early as possible to help the club when it has the least money coming in, my family and friends do the same.

I bought as many shares as I could afford at the time when the club had a share issue again to help the club, my family did the same.

I joined the lottery many years ago again to help the club, the fact that I have never won much doesn't matter the club needs the money my son did the same.

I am in Forever Reds because I want to do what I can to help the academy set up my family have done the same.

I support all the testimonials for players who have given good loyal service to the club because I want to do it and my family do the same.

If you want to take an alternative view its a free country and its your decision although the offer is better than you think.

Personally I think the club gave it's supporters an excellent set of options to choose from.

For families, you can get the membership then get a good discount for subsequent members

For individuals - yes you can pay a bit more, get the membership and the season ticket (plus the freebies - shirt & Murrayfield) so that was my choice (and which clubs haven't put up their basic season ticket price this year?)

You can choose just the season ticket

You can choose to pay on the gate

Now come on - other than give tickets away, just what more do you expect from the club?

Fair enough. Like you say each to their own etc.

I agree each to their own.

I am glad that some people have been able to benefit from the scheme.

We will see how successful it has been when the season starts.

Why will I not pay on the gate? It is the principle I am afraid. I don't like being forced to join schemes. The offer was 130 if you pay 50 pounds to be a member (180) or 180 to non members. No discount for years of loyalty and no benefits for supporters who go alone? So clearly, I am not the type of supporter the club value.

Why is 180 poor value it is not. It is average in SL BUT compare it to Huddersfield and consider what they have achieved on and off the field in the past couple of years. The reality is 180 to watch a dull, weak team struggle week in week out. This is exactly why I stopped going away last season. Not because we don't win but because prices are creeping up and we are not entertaining.

As I said loyalty works both ways. The club are not in a position where they can afford to alienate supporters. This offer for me (for the time being) has proven to be the last straw.

Erm, I go 'alone' and I still got on the membership with all the benefits that brings...
