Indeed, and its not people in Hull he would be influencing. I'm not suggesting for one minute that Prescott has used his position to sway the funders from NHS but he would know some fairly senior people to have conversations with if he chose to.

Didn't mind him actually, never been my MP (was stuck with the beyond awful Townsend when I lived over there) but quite liked the way he ruffled the public school boy's feathers, and he liked a bit of a groove.
Never thought about the influence angle (never having had any!) but it does make sense.
If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

As former Deputy PM and Secretary of State , Prescott can be included amongs the Labour Big Hitters - so he will have numerous contacts and areas of influence.
I like toast as much as anyone , but not for breakfast , dinner and tea.
