Cooke is one of the highest earners and is being touted around to be offloaded, i'd also guess Galea wont have his deal renewed at the end of the season for similar reasons.

One big question, do you think Rovers massively overspending for 1 succesful SL season and then having the problems associated with fighting off that debt is worth it? (i'm not trolling by the way, just trying to have a genuine debate about the problems, we've been through them too in the past dont forget)

Maybe Rovers should introduce player valuations to their balance sheet?? That would make things look slightly better

It is the way of the weak to secretly bleat to those in authority rather than fight their own battles.

Makes no difference - would be like me having a facelift. Slightly better appearance but still mischief-making B&W old bag underneath.

Out of interest are Rovers paying Clintons salary at the mo if as I understand the contract is signed and sealed?

If you are not part of the solution then you are more likely part of the problem...

Surprised that Dave T and the other Hull fans missed the bit in the HDM which stated Hudgell and other board members had been prepared to make large investments in Craven Park and underwrite the clubs debts.

Bit like Hull directors were underwriting there own debts a few years ago.

Standing up to the forum bully.

It must be working, he doesn't like me...i'm devastated

[quote="barham red"]they've said they're trying to offload the players they are overpaying[/quote

But replacing with yet another overpaid player, as Clinton will be at £130,000+ for a non state of origin , non international , with recent history of poor form bench player..Some funny decisions been taken at Craven Park these days, makes you wonder who is actually steeering the ship, the coach or the board????

I believe Cooke and Galea are different scenarios to Clinton, Cooke was paid silly money to keep us in SL (which was definitely worth it as relegation would have been a catastrophe) but as we stand today isn't worth the current wage we are paying him.Galea is no spring chicken and is in a position that we can cover very capably and will certainly look to bring in a younger, cheaper replacement (Cook or Taylor).

We will still need to pay players worth their wage a good amount and with sponsorship, backers and crowds we will improve financially. I'd fit Briscoe, Newton, Dobson in to this bracket.
Clinton will come into the club on a wage worthy of his standing and in a position we need to fill to maintain our current squad strength.

I don't believe we have overspent for one good season, I think we have invested in a foundation of a very good and solid superleague side, that with building around the fringes, better young players coming through (attracted by on field performances) and selective and correctly valued players coming in (when available) will develop a sustainable business model in years to come.

I expect a few big earners to be moved on at the end of the year, Cooke, Galea, Walker, Webster, Fisher and possibly Vella will all look to be moved on. I would hope shoots of young players will fill some of these roles, Ratu and Welham in the centres, Hodgeson and Spaven at Hooker, Taylor and Cook in 2nd row and Watts up Front and look to buy in a quality 6 and maybe another position.

It was always going to take financial hardship to get up from NL to SL and I expect none of this is coming as a great shock to the board, the plan will always heve been get to a postion of soliditiy and then consolidate and make it pay for itself. Hopefully that will start to happen.

Key word being HAD, didn't Hudgell in his recent all access interview say that position would be reviewed at the end of next season? As some used to be quick to point out, what happens when said directors want their cash back?

The same could be said at Hull with their recruitment if looked at with the wrong glasses.

Need a number 7 to build the side around, solution... Shaun Long aged 34, 1 good year left at most and no prospect coming through

Strengthen the pack.. sign 2 forwards, 1 whos 34 which is old for such an impact area. The other who ticks exactly the same faults as the ones you labelled Clinton with, not had a good season in 4 years.
Both these players picked up the covetted wooden spoon this year.

Add to this the project that was Moa, who Agar thought wasn't good enough to get in a struggling side for the majority of the year and a penalty machine in Lauiki.

Add to this that adding 2 34 year olds to a team that sturggles with injuries is hardly advisable.

It's all a subject of interpretations and veiwpoints..
