Indeed, and the clock counting down greatly adds to the drama.

It's the referee who blows the whistle. It's the referee who is close at hand to see whether teams are wasting time. It's the referee who can give warnings to sides if he thinks they are pushing things.
But no, someone sat down in the stands is better off to make a decision on the correct amount of time to add??? Do me a favour. You had at least 75 minutes in playing time to get yourself an equaliser. You failed, so Fergie detracts from that failure by whining about added time.

I don't know why the clock isn't stopped when the ball goes out and so on. I remember reading somewhere that the ball is in play for about 50/60 minutes on average in football, that's just over 2/3 of a game, pretty shocking when people are spending £40.00 a ticket. I've always thought they should just stop the clock for every corner, free kick and goal kick that takes a considerable amount of time, i.e. when Stoke pile every player forward for a standard throw in, or Everton for just about anything in the opposition half.

You could clearly hear Fergie shouting " Where the fuck did you get that from?" whilst spitting all over the 4th official after the board was put up on MOTD last night

So you think that football should turn into a 120 minute game so that 90 minutes of actual play takes place?
What if Gerrard and Torres are out injured. It'd take you about 5 days to come up with 90 minutes of "football".
It's a minor issue. Only brought about because of the failure of sides to do what they should have done anyway. But Fergie isn't going to slag off Rooney for passing to the keeper when Berbatov was free in front of goal. He isn't going to slag off Berbatov for not having the ability to volley from 7 yards out. He's just going to have a go at the ref for not giving the correct amount of added time.

It works in rugby so I don't see why it wouldn't work in football.
Like I said yesterday, we could've played all year and wouldn't have scored. IMO Fergie ballsed up by not starting with two strikers.

You have to love Fergie... .....He's like your pi$$ed up grandad, who's just been told that a bunch of ethnics are moving in next door...
I'm just awaiting the day when the doddery old fool inevitably drops dead on the touchline whilst berating another piece of 'incompetent' refereeing....
