Where do you draw the line between what is offensive and what is not? I daresay the families of a victim of an RTA whose driver was using a mobile phone would have a different opinion on that to GML. I, personally, find any flippant disregard of the trust placed in the people who drive 2 tons of lethal weapon by those drivers themselves offensive. Be it by deliberately speeding, drinking, using your phone or any other flouting of the driving laws in force to protect us all.

On the Hull board Paul M admits to having been caught driving while using a mobile phone. Do Hull fans think this compromises his ability to moderate? I don't.

Actually, although not a specific criminal offence in the same way as operating a mobile phone is, you can get done for operating your car stereo while driving if Plod so wishes. I know of a couple of cases, in fact.

That thread is closely monitored, and TBH it's been pretty harmless. If it had veered into blatant hate-mongering it would have gone.

I've been behind a car which was hit by an oncoming vehicle because the driver was changing a cassette. Nearly a head on. I bet there's not many of us can claim never to have operated the stereo while driving.

Yup. In theory you can get charged for any activity that the attending officer deems to be preventing you from being in full control of the vehicle. The additional specific offences regarding mobile phones were brought in because of the prevalence of those particular activities, and because research shows them to be more distracting than pretty much anything else.
That doesn't mean that anyone texting while driving is anything less than a thoughtless pillock, mind.

Fair do's. Still think that multiple offences when you make a living out of offenders makes you look a bit of a t!t though.
