Sorry but that's just very hard to defend. They're pricing the floating/impulse supporter out of the game. At £12 or £13 I'd watch 6 or 7 home games a season but at these prices I'll be lucky to make 3. Living in Yorkshire and working an irregular rota I can't make all games so a season ticket doesn't make sense, but when it comes round to Friday I have to weigh up spending £17 on the train over, £3 on the metrolink, £18 in, then add a few beers in and it's £50, I could have a great night out and a meal for that in Leeds (the pity!).

Now I'm not saying that if they halve the price they will get double the fans in, but with a eg £12 entry we'll get a lot more fans in and with better catering (eg real ale, rather than warm bottles of fizz - how about the Mayor of Salford Ale?) any small loss on the gates receipts would be made up with catering revenue plus the improvement to the atmosphere. It might take a while as once someone has been priced out of something they can take a lot of cajoling back.

From what I can make out we don't get any, regardless of admission price.

If you're happy to pay £13 but not £18, have 2 less pints and save yoursefl a fiver that way instead. I can't imagine many people who are willing to pay £45 for a night at the Willows being put off by having to pay £50.

No we won't. We struggle to get people to come who have free tickets FFS?!

Stew2 wrote:with better catering (eg real ale, rather than warm bottles of fizz - how about the Mayor of Salford Ale?) any small loss on the gates receipts would be made up with catering revenue

No it wouldn't, we don't sale anywhere near the quantity required to sell real ales at that kind of profit.

I can imagine the £18 entry fee will be enough to give people who don't want to come an excuse, but then so will £17, £16, £15, even £14.

If they drop prices below that they'd have to increase attendances considerably to make up for the lost revenue, and we can't do that.

 Love him or hate him, 163 consecutive appearances should make Stuart Littler a Salford legend in anyone's book

The admission last year was £17 on the gate which means it is an increase of only £1. Did you come to 6-7 matches last year or was it too expensive then aswell?

I think people need to remember just what good value RL is. Super League is the highest standard of RL you can watch in this country. Let's compare the prices of other sports for the best standard you can watch.

Premiership football- £40 minimum
Premiership Rugby Yawnion- £25 minimum
International Football- £50 minimum
Yawnion autumn internationals- £60 per ticket

RL 4 nations final- £40 family ticket (2 adults/ 2 children)

Wimbledon tennis- 2nd mortgage

Don't think it's too bad really and with the members discounts we get a bloody good deal. I know they are not for everyone but you can't please everyone all of the time I'm afraid.

To die of thirst we have no fear.
As long as we get Holts' beer!!!!

Value for money comparisons depend on what sports you compare Super League to. Can you compare Super League to the English football team or Manchester United? No, you can’t.

Can you compare Super League to rugby union internationals? Can you compare Super League to Wimbledon? No, you can’t. It’s like comparing a night at the Palace Theatre to a night on the West End.

Can you compare Super League to Wigan Athletic and Blackburn Rovers. Pushing it a little there, but we’re getting closer in terms of price.

Rugby league does offer very good value for money for families because outings are going to cost a reasonable amount of money anyway, and the sport has obviously recognised this — evident by its clubs’ discount policies.

However, it’s becoming much harder to persuade ones and twos: work colleagues, friends, neighbours etc. at these prices. The problem rugby league has is obvious: it has little to no media presence and as such it’s largely reliant on its supporters to promote games by word of mouth. And we need help.

Just to add a modicum of realism: after posting losses of £500,000ish, Hull K.R’s chairman recently stated that the club needs 10,000 at every home game to break-even. Salford can’t spend up to the salary cap limit until they reach a base of 8,000. Rugby league is trading on debt. So does football, largely, but at the highest level you know its clubs could evolve and become self-sufficient; I doubt RL clubs could do that, bar perhaps one, and the entrance prices reflect it.
