With rents at the Trafford Centre (although what happened to the link in with Debenhams - is that still ongoing? I never go to the TC to be able to find out) and the Lowry Mall being too high to justify, then what about making merchandise available in the Salford Tourist Information Centre in the Lowry? I've only had a quick scan in recently (nudge, nudge - pop in and vote for pic one - "I met my Love..." ) , but they do sell locally themed products so club stuff would fit the bill nicely there.

I work at the Tourist Information Centre as a casual assistant Iain and have been acting manager on several occassions. From what I can gather having raised the issue of the club selling merchandise from the TIC it seems they would have to climb through a mountain of red tape first. The Council, The Lowry and Enjoy England work in partnership with the TIC and they are very limited as to what they can stock and what they can sell. Would love to see a deal struck but I think its unlikely.
this will not be the end, or even the beginning of the end.
It is merely the end of the beginning

but why, Salford TIC is about promoting Salford so any idiot with one tenth of a brain would see this as an ideal method of promoting the City, we have Magenta on our kit to reflect Salford, I bet they sell Kendal Mint Cake!!!!!!. Rugby was INVENTED by a SALFORD lad are the TIC aware of this, apart from yourself do the staff know about Salford City reds. Manchester Tourist place has stuff from City and United, get rid of the Red tape and get the City Reds in. as it says In Salford

The Lowry receive at least a £1m a year from Salford Council to cover the shortfall in rents from the Lowry Shopping centre, so as I said we have you on our shirts why don't you sell our shirts, come on Salford Council if you are serious about Salford City reds use your own outlets to sell shirts etc.
as one would say Only In Salford

As I said its all red tape, no matter how much the Council fork out to subsidise the place they still only rent the space at The Lowry and don't have much of say in there..............sound weird Just the way it is!
Local Gov, Private Enterprise, European Grants etc. etc. Thought you knew about all that kind of stuff mate.

Perhaps Salford's principal sponsor, a direct competitor to the Lowry Outlet Mall, is a bone of contention here too.

I've always personally thought that the Trafford centre is very lax in advertiseing what is after all a product that they are very much involved with.
Your not telling me that they couldnt randomly throw the fitures and what have you on the big screen in the Orient rather than the constantly overly loud brainless drivel they currently do.
The employees of the TC itself wear Red as a uniform so why not incorporate the fact that they sponser the Reds?, maybe throw in a 5% of voucher with season tickets, run on the spot promotions at certain games with vouchers to spend in the TC, the club should be allowed every week to send a few random players down to pass out flyers for the next home game or for the Dads send the flames down for the same reason.
The point being that if someone who know background in marketing can think of these things surely the club and an eneterprise as large as the TC should be able to trump them, I refer back to my earlier suggestion that theclub needs urgently to approach the local educational institutes to see if they can provide people who want some real world experience to assist in this kind of venture.

I do know all about it, but in most cities I have visited where European money is involved the good people get to use it for their own advantage, Salford is the only council that has to pay money back to NWDA if they make any cash or charge peppercorn rents to community groups in property renovated using European cash, who writes these contracts, Salford also has 3 councillors on the Board of the Lowry, it is supposed to be for the people of Salford not Cheshire.
I will try and chase up with a couple of councillors about this matter.
really does p155 me off sometimes when I see Liverpool getting so much money then handing the building back to the communities and then the community group making money by charging the council rent to use it.
