Are we writing next season off as you keep mentioning that we several players off contract and thats when we will be busy?Is this just stringing us fans along who after all are the ones who buy the passes, shirts and merchandise etc,as our current recruitment leaves a lot of us fans very dissapointed.
No - I am not writing off next season. People need to have some faith in Justin and the Players as some of this negativity is quite alarming. Recruitment as I have tried to explain in the context of managing a salary cap is not a year on year thing. It has to be looked at over a cycle of years.
With this being your third year in a row of late account filing do you consider this to be one of the main reasons for the strong and sustained assault by the rumour mill on Hkr`s financial position?
No - as far as I recall this never been mentioned until I just flagged it up.
Hi Neil, You keep pointing out how much Superleague clubs 'on average' have lost, but this is an Hull KR Q&A so how much have we actually lost, please?
The cost of getting to and establishing the club in Super League was always going to require investment in the short term in excess of operating revenues and the club planned for that. In the last 2 years as the club has continued to pay-off historic debt, invest in players and stadium development. Taking that into consideration we have still managed to reduce the operating budget deficit and are confident of making even bigger strides in this area in 2010.
The loss for the last accounting period filed was £478,000 and the loss for this accounting period will be £447,000. I anticipate the loss for this next financial year will be on a par with that. Clearly, those are significant losses in isolation. However, the loss in 2008 is down on the previous year. This trading year’s loss will be similar which in deteriorating economic conditions and when the first team made the top four is pretty decent. It shows the prudent steps that we made at the beginning of the year were justified. Let me say that we operate near to the maximum of the salary cap and therefore those losses should be viewed in that context.
If you want to wipe out all the losses overnight we can do so by simply not resigning 4 or 5 senior players. But that would damage the club on and off the field and as you may agree, it's a difficult balancing act.
As we are going through the worst recesion in over 100 years is it frustrating to hear fans talk of big signings and building more pressure on the club
