With 54% of people in Britain supporting the return of capital punishment this drama was set in a ficticios paralell Britain where the death sentence was re-introduced for murder and rape of children under 12 years old.
Thoughts ?
Shame it was fiction.

I personally feel the dath penalty is barbaric in this day and age and realistically it woud not prevent the most heinous crimes from being committed. It may stop the odd money motivated crime, shooting during armed robbery etc but in all likelihood the perpetrators of such crimes will never think of the consequences prior to committing them.
The real issue with the criminal justice system in this country is the inabilty to deal with and the inconsistency that 'petty' / less serious crimes are dealt with. The antisocial behavior and lack of respect for the police of a large element of our society seems to have is the real problem with todays society. For all the death penaly worthy crimes are abhorent they are also very isolated and in reality are not the crimes that affect us most.
Having said all of this if it was one of my own kileed / raped then i no doubt would change my point of view but I guess that is why we should let people a bit more detatched and impartial make a decision on this. The outcome of a referendum would be decided on by the Murdoch empire and how they decided it should go.
It would prevent the person who was topped doing it again.

An eye for an eye is one way of looking at it however we would have to be careful as even DNA evidence is not 100% accurate.
As said it has done little to prevent crimes in other countries and there should be much cheaper ways to imprison someone for life.
We need tougher jails for criminals that dont require rehabilitating such as peado's, they should be punnished and made to cry themselves to sleep on a night, however the death penalty...its a tough call and one I'm still unsure on.
Maybe a Judge and Jury could decide if someone is guilty and then the punnishment could be offered to the victims or families of the victims, if they decide death by whatever choice there may be then that is what is carried out?
Did not watch this programme for one reason. It is ment to provoke silly reactions from people who do not understand the justice system in the uk. Probaly daily mail or sun readers. Does capital punishment work? How many wrong convictions would end in death? Too many! Silly silly programme
If DNA and overwheming evidence finds cold blooded murderers and phadeophiles guilty then i believe being caged up for the rest of their natural life is the only way to stop them commiting further crimes. If public opinion via a referendum votes to bring back capital punishment then only the do gooders can have any regrets that these animals have received justice.
Doubt he will lose his head over the crucifixion part.

No I don't mean that and I certainly didn't mean offence to you and others who have served in the forces. Soldiers don't decide if we go to war anyway, politicians do.
I'm talking about our criminal justice system not war or soldiers acting in self defence.
I'm talking about self righteous people who think someone should be executed because they say so.
People talk about Huntley but actually he has tried to commit suicide on several occasions. So has Ian Brady. Harold Shipman actually succeeded in killing himself.
So executing these people is actually more preferable to them than life imprisonment.

Amazing, the ones in favour are self righteous, but not the ones who say no to the death penalty, that in itself is self righteous.
