He isnt of international standard. However, lets be totally honest we are not awash with international standard centres and i would suggest that the two that played on saturday certainly are not (although Shenton has the potential in my opinion to develop into one).
With that in mind, if Welham continues with his current rate of progression who is to say that he wont be in contention in 1 or 2 years time?
Isnt that more to do with Walker being either poor or injured?
Who else could have played there?
I have to agree with your other points though
Welham is solid enough, but doesnt have the strenght or attcaking flair to make a top SL centre. Their are much better younger centres out there than him.
