Too lightweight, poor positionally, tackling technique leaves a lot to be desired hence why he gets side stepped, shoots out the line at the wrong time. Poor mans kirk yeaman IMO.

IIRC Welham was an ever present in a top four super league side. No bad achievement for a player who was behind two internationals in his position at the start of 2009. Compare his try scoring achievements with other English internationals in his position and i reckon another season of continuos improvement and he will be knocking on the door.
