Putting your interpretation on what he allegedly said and as a result concluding he has done something wrong to justify your original position is just perpetuating the rumour.

As to wiping the slate clean in your previous post you said

How can he have failed to respond to the new regime when Maguire hasn't even arrived yet?

Ainscough like the rest of the team will be on holiday until pre-season training starts in the middle of next month so there is no new regime doing anything not to respond to.

I'm sure you'd love to argue about this all day, but you'll need to find someone else to argue with.

I've already said, nearly 20 minutes before you posted this, that I regret getting overexcited and that, in retrospect, I think this thread should be locked - it's based on an unfounded rumour, with no apparent evidence to back it up. In other words, we're all commenting freely on something that may not even have happened, you as much as anyone else.

So I'm out of here.

IMO Ainscoughs a perfect candidate for a season long loan, would do him the world of good and would be even better if it was another SL side. Let him have another season under BN at Celtic? I would.

I know we shouldn't go over old ground but looking at this realistically the only spot that Ainscough's going to take is Amos's, Pat and Phelps are assured of there spots Phelps because we don't have any better option and Pat because he's arguably are best player.

Forgetting this BS about playing 15 games, Ainscough will play every game next season if he can prove himself to be a better player than Amos, that all Shaun needs to think to himself.

Personally for me the stats tell there own story about who should be on the wing and that's Ainscough, a good pre season with work on his defense and ball catching technique and he'll come good.

Why Celtic? It was Noble who dropped him the week after scoring 4 tries and never selected him again. If he goes somewhere it'd be the likes of Wakey. Personally I'd like him to stay with us and share a slot with Roberts with Shaun Wane managing his development.

I know this is an old arguement but it keeps coming back. It really is like comparing apples and oranges. The left wing sees a lot more ball than the right wing in most teams because people are predominantly right handed and can pass to the left easier and more accurately. I know it's not possible but Roberts' stats could make interesting reading if he played on the left. This is shown by the tackles made stat, 115 to Roberts and 40 to Ainscough.

Looking at metres per carry, Roberts makes 8.3m and Ainscough makes 7.8m.

There's not really that much between the 2 of them but I'd prefer Roberts to be there rather than Ainscough. I think he's a cleverer player.

Just because i think he'll get games there, Salford is another. See how he plays when hes first choice. I cant see him getting first team rugby at Wigan. Pat is a first team must these days, and Roberts has been brought in on a very very very good contract, 4 years and a good wedge. No way Amos will rotate in the reserves for 3 years with SA.

Ainscough leave? Isn't he in the first year of a three year deal?
Ainscough's time will come and in the not too distant future too.
He the best young wingman in the game, not the finished article, though at his age none in the league anywhere near his ability.
Ainscough should still be here in ten years time.

I'd agree with you pal that the size of Roberts' contract is what keeps him in the first team but from the outside looking in I don't like the way that's done. The big criticism of Ainscough is his defence, but I've lost count of the number of times Roberts has been targetted in defence and come up wanting this year also. In particular, simply failing to challenge for a high ball is unforgivable with his level of experience.

Both of them have strengths and flaws in their games but I'd say they are very similar if you gave them marks out of 10 which doesn't justify either being in the 1st team constantly ahead of the other. However, with more exposure I'd say Ainscough has the most scope for improvement.

I know that the stats don't back it up but i think Ainscough offers us something that no one else on the team can which is a threat every time he touches the ball.

He’s got a far greater ability to break the line or get past his opposite man than anyone else on the field. When you put that into the context of us having very little game changers it’s a massive + point for him.

As harsh as it sounds the best scenario for next season would be for Roberts to start and for us to have a flying start to the season then for Roberts to have about three or four weeks off with an injury. It will be much easier for Ainscough then if the team has the confidence to attack and is playing well as a unit.

I agree that it's unfair when comparing the two to use either there try scoring record or try assists for the exact reason that you mention.

The things that can be compared between the two which playing on either wing has no baring on such as clean breaks and tackles bust for me Ainscough just edges, in the end all we can hope is that both of them push each other to be the best they can and that can only be a good thing for Wigan.

Wigan vs Leeds finals aggregate score.

Wigan 178 - 64 Leeds

Wigan wins - 6 Leeds wins - 0
