For a club that's filed it's accounts late for five years, we haven't done too bad off of the back of it.

Forums, don't you just love them, 99% of members who are just that, and the other 1% are cabbages.

DANNY LOCKWOOD - LEAGUE WEEKLY (18-5-09)

I'M SURE THERE IS NO CORRELATION BETWEEN THE FACT THAT THE FRONT RUNNERS FOR THE 2009 MEDIA WHINGING AWARD ARE FROM GATESHEAD AND HULL FC, FORMERLY THE B*ST*RD-TWINS OF ONE OF RUGBY LEAGUE'S LOUSIER IDEAS.

Cue the usual suspects declaring how brilliantly Rovers is run in all aspects.

Give over...you were making mischief and you know it! You would not have quoted numbers otherwise! :P

Always had a lot of time for both Hull clubs, as old hands on both Hull boards may remember, so I feel quite at ease speaking my mind!

Indeed!

Although I do think that's a tad unfair on cabbages...turnips perhaps...

I wouldn't be too concerned about accounts for 2008 - if they were that awful, Rovers'd not be trading still. Also the creditors are, to a significant extent, directors, I believe, who'd have little to gain by suddenly calling in the debt. An, ahem, 'unhurried' approach filing accounts has become something of Rovers tradition.
There'll be a loss of a similar size to 2007, according to NH in his programme notes (can't recall which game - I can check if anybody is desperate). The concern is how long the directors will keep underwriting that and what can be done to improve the situation.
I know the glee with which bad news in this area is met, spun or even created in certain quarters, and the subject itself, can be pretty boring, but it is absolutely fundamental. NH has done an excellent job, but he's not a magician. He's talked about this himself (financial issues, not his lack of magical ability) in a recent interview - the infamous 'cabbages' one in fact.
Crossriver mudslinging and sulking about all the advantages they were handed by fate is... well fair enough actually. However it changes nowt - life isn't fair and you just have to play the cards you are dealt. They could have been rather worse lately - at least Rovers have a franchise and a chance to build the club alongside the team.

Your usual measured and well-balanced approach.

Was it 2008 or 2009 he was referring to?

2008, I'd assume. the 2009 accounts won't be filed late for another year yet, will they? You're the accountant!

No, but it's year end next month. Any decent business can forecast its outturn with only 2 months to go.

An interesting accounting point (oxymoron, I know) would be whether Club Rovers 2010 income can be recognised in the 2009 accounts. Should go into the balance sheet as deferred income IMO
