Reaching the Co-operative Championship One Grand Final was hardly a piece of cake for Keighley Cougars, but that all changed this week with a very special delivery.
Steeton-based bakers J Wild (Confectioners) Ltd., who have ‘Wild’s’ retail outlets throughout the Keighley-region, baked a special cake to celebrate the Cougars’ appearance against Oldham in the 2009 Grand Final at Warrington’s Halliwell Jones Stadium.
The cake arrived Cougar Park yesterday (Thursday) just in time to be part of the club’s celebrations.
Helen Carter, the Cougars’ General Manager, said: “It’s a wonderful gesture by one of the area’s leading companies.
“We like to think that our appearance in the Final reflects well on the whole district and it’s fantastic that Wilds have been part of the build up to one of the biggest sporting events involving any club from the Keighley area for quite some time.
“The cake is going to be the centre piece at the club’s post Grand Final function that will be staged Cougar Park on Sunday evening, whether we win or we lose.
“The cake is a superb piece of confectionary and it shows what quality products are available from companies in this area.”
Jon Presley, one of the club’s star players who had scored 24 tries before Sunday’s Grand Final, was on hand to take delivery of the cake from Wilds outlet on Low Street in Keighley. He said: “It’s a fantastic gesture by Wilds and it makes us feel that people from all parts of the Keighley community are supporting us against Oldham.”
John Bateman of J Wilds (Confectioners) Ltd., said: “We are proud to donate this cake to the Cougars in their endeavours to win the Grand Final and hope that it forms part of the victory celebrations that we are sure will come to Keighley. We wish the team well from all at Wilds, your local baker”.

Not that this is a shameless plug is it
Seriously if the club could get more local sponsors/advertisers then it would help in so many ways.
WELL DONE WILDS
I still find it amazing that Keighleys best known product still will not realsie what potential being involved with them could be worth but then again..............

and ENJOY your sport
