sadly it seems people will only watch us if we are doing extremely well, i think the mentality within the town is still seen as your wasting your time supporting the rugby team, yet despite how poor the football team are they still seem to pull the crowds in.very frustrating for ken davy and for us long standing supporters
The football team get a lot of support from the 'Heavy Woolen' area consisting of Batley, Dewsbury, Mirfield, Liversedge, Cleckheaton, Heckmodwike, Robertown, Birstall, Earlsheaton etc. A lot of these people wouldn't dream of supporting the Giants because they are :-
1. Batley or Dewsbury fans.
2. Hate the Giants because Ken took their stadium off them.
3. Hate the Giants because they were given sqillions to keep them in Super League and even then when they finished bottom 4 years on the trot weren't relegated.
4. Would rather support Bradford / Wakey / Leeds or any combination of these 4.
I'm not giving an opinion as the whether this is right, wrong or indifferent.
It's just an observation based on conversations with Town fans from this area.
My view is that Kirklees (Hudds + Heavy Woolen area) is definately a Huddersfield Town football area rather than a Giants rugby area. When it comes to Huddersfield itself the spread will not be as bad from a Giants point of view but will still be in the football clubs favour.
