The SMC doesn't own the stadium, the council does. The SMC has positive net assets, and if it were to go bust, the council, as owners of the stadium, would appoint another management company to run operations. Clearly if City were to go bust, then the council would have an under-utilised asset. Do you think the council would spend £43.5m on an asset to let it lie idle? The good taxpayers of Hull might have to subsidise it, but the KC would still be open for business.
