But when you stack the whole hHh Vs SCSA Vs The Rock with Mick Foley, The Taker etc thrown in for good measure it just shows how bad it is in comparison.
Dont get me wrong its not awful but IMHO its not a patch on the how it was in the early 90's
In just seems so forced now an example of that is DX
Oh no, I
hate Cena. I don't have the time right now, but I could - and have - posted article-length rants on him and how he is booked. However, during the Attitude Era, when we had The Rock, Jericho, Austin, Foley et al ripping it up on the Mic, the TV rating was at least TV15 - I even have videos and DVDS in my collection from back then that are rated 18. But today, it is TVPG, and Wrestling continues to morph into something else and it really is swings and roundabouts. After the whole Benoit hoo-hah, The 'E have had to tone it down a fair bit and build a whole new audience, from the kids - like when we all began watching Wrestling as kids - and, therefore, Cena is the new kiddies' hero. He is our Hogan. Can't Wrestle for toffee, but is the company's big star, based upon his appeal to the kids. Hopefully as the current target audience matures - as they will, they can't stay six forever - the 'E will no doubt make endeavours to keep up with modern fashions.
Let's not forget, in 1999, Jerry Springer and South park were the top Tv shows, today it's more Hannah Montanna and High School Musical. As such, the 'E are booking their top star(s) to be in-line with this. While I've been sat here writing this, another 200 kids in America have bought John Cena lunchboxes. Why should Vince listen to me? I'll still be watching next week. I don't count, unfortunately. The kids do, but the kids will grow up and, hopefully, if they stay 'into' Wrestling, discover ROH, TNA, hopefully discover youtube and Flair-Steamboat, Hart-Austin, Dynamite, Tiger Mask, Benoit, and demand for their top stars to be something like those greats. A bit like the mid-90s when counter culture became mainstream and the marks groomed by ECW booed Rocky Mavia out of the Arena untill they turned him heel, gave him some edge et Voila, The Rock!
Also, I don't doubt the Rock's ability on the mic; I was a massive Rock mark back in the day, I just find Jericho a tad better for his ability as a Heel and to generate the heat he does.
