Saints away in the cup in 2007, a fella stood in front of me (another poster's Grandfather, incidentally) announced that he felt Rah was our worst ever signing. I said that I wouldn't say worst ever, to which he replied with a challenge of naming who I felt was our worst ever signing. Standing there, off the top of my head, with a bit of an audience, I said "Rodwell".
poop story, but his name is usually the first that comes to my head on discussions such as this. My age and lack of experience may go against me here, but I'm going for Rodwell.

Im sure I have a meory of Felton praacticing catching bombs in a warm up against Wigan and dropping several of them. He was crap.
he was anonymous, distinctly average in every game he played. Some rubbish players always have 'a game' where they shone e.g. Rauhihi Leeds but Wainwright stole a wage never had a game were he stood out. He's a local lad granted but that doesn't excuse him

Load of crap that mate.
We re-signed him after barely escaping relegation and he did a great job for us. Tireless worker and fully committed. Never going to set the world on fire but would never let you down.
I can only assume you never saw Andy Currier, Leroy Rivett, Leon Felton, Dallas Mead, Craig Tietzel, Mateaki Maffe, Paul Rauhihi, Stuart Reardon. All of whom have proven to be far worse signings than Mike Wainwright.
Wainwright 'did' Scully a few times at the HJ, I seem to recall. His link up play down the left chanell with Nat Wood was a valuable attacking asset and, as said, he was a tireless worker. I have a lot of time for Wedge, actually, and think that a lot of the stick he took was unwarranted and unjust.
