Sensible post, and I assume you actually have seen the guy play several times

Several's pushing it, 4 or 5 I think. He got absolutely beasted taking his first SL tackle IIRC but has done OK, nothing startling that I've seen myself. But he has been mentioned consistently at reserve level for ages so the right thing all round.
lets be honest, all that have seen fc's 3 hookers play will know that hodgson is the third if not fourth in the cue for first team action behind berrigan, houghton and lee...
a shame to lose a youngster but thats how it goes im afraid. ......is he the finished article that rovers need? nowere near in my opinion, fisher in my opinion isnt good enough either for a team who want to be at the top for a sustained period of time..is cockayne the answer? again not for me, but a good substitute if first choice is injured...obviuosly fitzhenry has gone and he did well at 9 but never set the world alight in his time at rovers....
that leaves hodgsson and spaven as the two young hookers, ive seen alot of spaven, and in my opinion he looks a good prospect, and out-shone hodgson at brantingham last season and at craven park but thats just my opinion of course.....
but whatever happens in th hooking role at rovers next season, it wil be interesting to see if hodgson can claim a starting/interchange role, but i still think he's got alot of work to do to be a starter....
in my opinoin rovers needed a speedy hooker, scooting around the ruck and playing off there big forwards, currentkly that isnt going to happen , maybe hodgson will be the answer in the future but at present its still a problem for the robins..

Looking forward to seeing him play.
got it in one
in any other position i'd have been sad to see our 'best reserve player of the year' leave the club...but we have loads of hookers and I coulden't see him getting much game time now that Berrigan will finally get to play no9 every week.

have we signed him for now or have we signed him with the chance of bringing him on quicker than Hull could manage what with Houghton and whoever.
Maybe there is another signing that will be announced soon and we will have a top of the range hooker or we will play Matt Cook and Clint Newton in the second row have Ben Galea at loose man with Scott Murrell going in at Hooker replaced by Ben Fisher or one of the youngsters. It isn't a major problem position however I think if we want to win regular silverware we do need a Cunningham/Newton/Berrigan...etc to steady the ship from hooker.
