It brought a tear to my eye on sat watching Preki walking round wembley . I know this might upset G.T and the others but do you not think that this guy deserves a Knighthood instead of Flintoff?

Because you are a big cricket fan. I know freddie has done his country proud and us lancastrians, and i know that the press were pressing him to be knighted. But he has been taken care off in his contract that he has signed but preki put his body on the line in his career and possibly not well paid for, but to have an illness and still done what he has done, jeez this guy really deserves anything that could come his way.

And? The rest of your post is pointless. Just because I'm a big cricket fan doesn't mean I think Flintoff deserves a Knighthood. Nor does it mean I think he should be in line for one ahead of Steve Prescott or anyone else. As it is, I think there's people far more deserving of Knighthood's than any sportsman that will never get a look in. That is a different argument altogether, though.

that is why I am against the civil honours system, majority of major awards go to ex-public school senior civil servants, who have run the country for the last 100 years despite which party is in power.
Sports people can pick up awards in their field, the honour comes from playing, representing their school, town, city, county or country.
Too many people get too many awards for little effort, ie the Ashes 2005, was then any greater than the Yawnian boys picking up the World cup, or United's Treble or England's World cup win in 1966.
But some lad from Salford/manchester not too cleaver at school and can not get a job, so he joins the Army to put his life on the line, because the school system fails him and his reward a pay packet and a nightmare posting. Cricketers face 90mph balls, a bullet and bomb is a lot quicker, just puts everything into perspective, Steve Prescott is also fighting and he too deserves an award but he is far more worthy than the current value of these awards.
