Isn't this injury serous enough to keep him sidelined well into next season? I haven't seen anything mentioned about how long he would be out except for the rest of this season.
There is no guarantee he will make a full recovery from this so any contract he may get needs lots of conditions about his fitness factored in. If he will be out for months I am not sure it would be worth the risk.

Bailey himself says he 'should' be back for the start of next season. That to me says it's going to be a long enough injury to make it touch and go for that and it's convinced me we should let him go tbh. It's an injury we've seen the likes of Dave Hodgson and Vaealiki struggle to come back from because it robs you of abit of pace and more then likely confidence. I know Bailey isn't blessed with much pace to start with but even losing that half yard will be noticable imo.
It's be tough on such an honest pro who wants to stay at Wigan if we just released him but thats Rugby League.
Bailey out with a prop forward coming in will leave our squad looking pretty healthy imo.

That is true. It took Hodgson a full season to get back up to speed and he wasn't given any leeway that he had suffered this kind of injury and DV never did!

That is also true and I would not like to be the one to have to break the bad news.

I personally don't see any reason why we should keep Bailey, it's already been mentioned in this thread by others that we have far better attacking and defensive options in the team without him. The only thing he has under his belt in comparison to the others is experience, but for me that just isn't enough, how do we ever expect the other players in the backrow to stand up and be counted when they can use the easy option of looking to Phil for inspiration, that's not the way you promote future leaders in your team.
If Bailey does go it will no doubt leave some room on the salary cap which to use, but lets use it wisely if theres nobody available who's right then lets save it and spend it in 2011.

But he was a centre!

We need to get to the stage where we have 2 second rowers Lockers @ 13 with one on bench if needed with O Carroll, Feka, Fielden Coley, Prescott, one could play in the backrow instead rotate

Young Greg Burke was impressive last night but I think it's much too soon for him.
I don't really want Paul Johnson back but he could be a reasonable utility option until Hock returns, if he doesn't want daft money.
You forgot to add Mossop to that list Rogues, plus what about that guy Tuson he could fill in for us on a couple of games if needed, although I do believe he's injured at the minute but he'll be right for 2010.

I've said it before and will say it again, get a stone and a half on him and there's your prop
Wiki was a Centre once.
I really like bailey, great leader, fully comitted and stops everything coming at him. Never a centre since he has been here, is a good 2nd rower but for hard yards and leadership never taking a backward step and loving the club get him in the gym on the heavy weights.
I just hope whether he stays or goes he recovers 100% from his injury, rel embassador and club man.

Surely if we lose Bailey, Smith and Flanagan, we will have enough money to get a new player. If we don't sign anyone then Bailey will be staying.
Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good - sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league - Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate - the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever - Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go - Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know - FIOS

As IL alluded to at the fans forum, we may have to give the better up and coming young players a decent increase to keep them at the club and that will suck up a lot of the money.
Ian Thornley is being "courted" by rugby union.
