I remember the posters on the gates of hope high and some houses up on eccles old rd. a few years ago,we have to at least try,if its so expensive why do we have a marketing department at all, what do they do all week ???????????????sorry to seem negative but think its beyond a joke.
The fans seem to be the only ones the club rely on to try and boost attendances

Given our crowds you'd have to suggest our fans are failing the club then. Shall we slag the fans off for a bit? Then we can have a whip round and send the cub an apology cake.

I raised the issue a couple of months ago, trish did a good job but whoever we replaced trish with, we cannot be paying much! If we are I think they should be sued under the trade description act.

Marketing at Salford appears to be mickey poor!

Why?

Is there any evidence to suggest that the posters were good value for money?

Did they pay for themselves in increased gates?

Perhaps our marketing department is busy making difficult, unpopular but financially sounds decisions ... like not paying hundreds to put posters up that bringin no extra revenue?

 Love him or hate him, 163 consecutive appearances should make Stuart Littler a Salford legend in anyone's book

to be fair...is there any evidence that they weren't ? not as if you can compare with...say vouchers out of the local press.....but as that doesn't happen often... should we say that doesn't work either ?

silly as at it sounds!heres an idea, there are enough empty shops on salford precinct at the mo so cudnt the club set aside a few quid and try rent one on say a short 6 month lease to try and promote things a bit??a bit of merchandise for sale, cheap tickets etc??lets face i know the place is depressing but it is the central hub of salford as such and the willows is out the way a bit for a few people so for example when half of fellow salfordians claim there dole and socail money we cud do a big offer every now and again next year for em!

Who shops on Salford Precinct? All I read is once Tesco move no one will go there.

We would be better off getting Peel to allow space in the Trafford Centre during the recession.

Why cant the Trafford Centre put up a weekly advert onthe big screen announcing the games. get some of the injured players there giving out leaflets or selling discounted tickets ..

Loads of students do, and they are a group we should be targeting in my opinion. Granted, you won't get any near the amount of residual income from them than young families; but the offer of a cheap night out will prick their ears up.

That said, the reason why loads of retailers moved out of Salford Precinct was because the shop rents went up sharply after Salford Council revealed a huge deficit 5+ years ago. The price wasn't commensurate with the shopper demographic i.e. poor area, not big spenders.

Therefore, I too doubt opening a shop on the Precinct would be a wise investment. A market stall, however, might be a better option; but then you have issues with brand integrity. Getting the online shop working should be a given, but less than 30% of Salfordians have access to the internet (2007 figures, can't find the link).

Also, I doubt many people actually read the Advertser's sports section. The guess the Santa season ticket competition at the start of the year attracted a whopping 40-odd entries. And only one got the answer correct.
