Loads of students do, and they are a group we should be targeting in my opinion. Granted, you won't get any near the amount of residual income from them than young families; but the offer of a cheap night out will prick their ears up.
That said, the reason why loads of retailers moved out of Salford Precinct was because the shop rents went up sharply after Salford Council revealed a huge deficit 5+ years ago. The price wasn't commensurate with the shopper demographic i.e. poor area, not big spenders.
Therefore, I too doubt opening a shop on the Precinct would be a wise investment. A market stall, however, might be a better option; but then you have issues with brand integrity. Getting the online shop working should be a given, but less than 30% of Salfordians have access to the internet (2007 figures, can't find the link).
Also, I doubt many people actually read the Advertser's sports section. The guess the Santa season ticket competition at the start of the year attracted a whopping 40-odd entries. And only one got the answer correct.
