Quote:Should this year’s Carnegie Challenge Cup Final between Huddersfield Giants and Warrington Wolves at Wembley end in a draw then Bolton’s Reebok Stadium will host the replay on Tuesday 8 September, kick off 7.05pm.
Following two pulsating semi-finals, this year’s Wembley final on Saturday August 29 is promising to be a classic between two evenly matched sides, so much so that the RFL’s official bookmaker William Hill is finding it difficult to separate both sides.
Warrington, who have not won at Wembley since 1974, start as slight favourites, odd-on at 8/11 whilst William Hill are offering even money on Huddersfield winning their first Carnegie Challenge Cup since 1953.
If the scores are tied after 80 minutes at Wembley, then the game will go straight to a replay which will be played 10 days later and screened live on BBC 2.
Sally Bolton, the RFL’s Director of Events and Projects, said: “Normally we don’t announce the replay venue until after we’ve had a drawn final. However, considering how close and competitive the games have been this year in both the league and the Carnegie Challenge Cup the likelihood of this game ending in a tie is quite high.
“On paper the final looks too close to call and after having a draw in the quarter finals we felt it appropriate to let supporters know the date and venue of a potential replay as early as possible.”
In the event that the replay ends in a draw after 80 minutes then the game will be decided by golden point.
