At Lords, two spells of bowling from Flintoff and some horrific bowling from Johnson on the first morning papered over a lot of cracks. Poor middle order that is dependant on KP for runs, bowling attack that lacks bite, unless there's swing and an over cautious captain.

Bell and Bopara both have to go, with Key and Trott coming in.

Result! I'd swapped my day 1 ticket for a day 4 ticket and headed down to London on friday for a weekend including watching the bulls beat quins. And The Jersey Boys on friday evening was excellent, highly recommended.

Luckily, we were offered free tickets for Day 5 so saved ourselves £20. Thank you God. :)

Embarrassing!!!

It all comes down to one match now, we must win to win the Ashes so for me everything goes out of the window that has gone before. Forget the future of Englsih cricket we need to pick the best possibly side for the next Test. For me that means getting shut of Bopara and Bell. Bopara I can coming back and batting at 5 at some stage, taking over from Collingwood. He is not a three and is being exposed technically and mentally byt the aussies. Bell should never have come back, he is just not upto it for England.

I would take a gamble and bring in two out of these three, Trescothick, Ramprakash and Key. Okay there is not future in any of them but that does not matter as it's about winning this next game. Any two from those three would be a positive move imo. Changing the team may give the wrong signals but keeping it the same will see us lose the Test. As for the future I don't know, we don't have a no.3 from what I can see unless KP moves up the order?

A few of us Lancs regulars have been saying for a while that he should bat at 3...he's our best batsman and it should be up to the captain and coach to decide where he bats, not him...the best teams in the world generally have their best batsman at 3 (Ponting, Sangakkara, Tendulkar, Kallis etc) and I think KP has shown he can defend and concentrate a lot better than he has done before so 3 should be his position.

As for the oval test, bring in Ramprakash for Bell...he's in form, on his home ground, has a good average against the aussies (including a century at the oval), he's still physically fit enough, probably a lot more relaxed than Bell or Trott would be and what better way for him to bow out from top class cricket than winning us the ashes!!
