Your right in what you say however with hindsight you could have held off buying any tickets (and saved yourself the agony of the Bradford game) and purchased as many tickets as you'd like all sat together when they went on general release.

The problem was that with all the soothsayers forecasting a sell-out within hours you do understandly feel that you cannot risk leaving it until they go on general release just in case for once, depite all precedence suggesting otherwise, the game did sell out prior to general release of tickets.

Either way to sell out a couple of days prior to the game when tickets have been available for as number of weeks would suggest that the stadium capacity is just about right. There are not two better words to a marketing department then "sold-out" on a venues doors.

Did the club let you in on their plans for ticketing should be get to Wembley? An interesting departure from the norm, I wonder how it will work for those qualifying through season tickets etc before going on general release.

This is taken from the Wigan E-news dated 30-07-09

With the Carnegie Challenge Cup semi final less than two weeks away a few tickets and hospitality places still remain.

The Warriors face Warrington Wolves at the Stobart Stadium in Widnes a week on Saturday (8th August) at 2.30pm with a place at Wembley in the Challenge Cup Final up for grabs.

The club have already sold almost 5,000 tickets for this game with a few South and West Stand tickets remaining.

You are dead right PY I should have waited with hindsight. I bought my tickets the day they became available as I feared a sell out and missing out which would have been abhorent. Having said that I would have liked to be in a stadium where all the wire support was together intstead of disjointed and spread across 4 sides as it will be on Saturday. Anyway the points still stand a) I personally would have taken more on Saturday than I am doing b) there is no room for walk-up support on the day which is a shame.

In reply to your last point, no further word from Dave Hutchinson.

Not going to labour too much of a point, but if Gatcliffe says we could sold alot more then I have to agree with him. Nice to have a capacity crowd, however, it is a shame we don't have any walk up tickets left, the warrington fans are all divided and i couldn't bring new people to the game, but long as we win I don't care.

Of course you could have brought new people to the game, you've had 3 or more home games since the draw, you could have taken them to one of these to get them "into" it.

Saturday's Carnegie Challenge Cup semi-final between Warrington and Wigan at Stobart Stadium, Halton, was today declared a 12,975 sell-out.

The only people who can say that is the RFL. They selected a stadium and it sold out hours before kick off - clearly the perfect choice and demand pretty much matched supply.

Seems like the RFL might no more about running a sport that a bunch of amateurs on a message board. Who'd have thunk it?

But the argument goes that maybe if they'd aimed higher with a bigger stadium, they would have sold more tickets. Look how successful Wembley semi finals have been in football.

If Warrington were at Wembley for this semi I can guarantee we would have sold more tickets than for Widnes.

<I>

It still wouldn't have been the correct decision - an equal part of the equation is cost. I suspect we would have sold more tickets but I'll also guarantee that they'd have sold nowhere near enough to make it financially viable. The other point of course is that Wembley itself has a lure and neither team has played their in years. Wonder what the crowd would have been if we played it at Ewood Park? Bout 13k I expect.

For Warrington and Wigan, a ground of around 13k was ideal in 2004. Turns out it's still pretty much ideal in 2009.

mark_m wrote:Why told you so? It has sold out but it has taken until two days before the final to do so. Hardly a mad panic. I also suspect it has only done so due to the recent upturn in Wigoons form.

Our biggest crowds in recent times were when we were 6 points clear at the BOTTOM of the table, so that blows your thesis out of the water :P
