D.D. wrote:It's not so much a creative midfielder for me but a driving, all action type of player. A player who can win the ball but rather than knocking it sideways, a la De Jong and Kompany, one who can then bring the ball forward with a bit of pace and power and, as such, get the rest of the team moving forward with momentum. A midfielder of the Steven Gerrard mould.

That role could be filled by Johnson.....if he got himself fit. I won't hold my breath though.

High quality box-to-box midfielders appear to be few and far between.

Suggestions?

It'd be really difficult to replace him. Despite the success of Torres and Gerrard up top, I think we'd have to revert Gerrard back to CM and bring in a forward.

There really isn't many players available that are fit to lace Alonso's boots.

Wonder if Sneijder could play that deep, or would he be the one to play off Torres, if he came?

Its a real shame because the team as it is now I thought had a real good chance of pushing for the title again.

RVN would be the best finisher at the club, good signing if true.

Van der vaart behind Torres would be a good option.

Maybe but the problem is bar RVN and Robben any other players from there would be untested in the prem would much rather have just kept Alonso.

Without Tubby, United wouldn't have stood a chance.
